So I started at a Cafe store in a busy outdoor mall last year. it was actually owned by Starbucks. I left them because I work at a summer camp during my summers. When I came back home I decided to go to a different Starbucks, this one being a licensed store at a nearby University (same travel distance). Here’s some stats and what is different about these 2 locations. I live around Chicago.

Old place:
Non-unionized
Terrible and inconsistent hours
Resentful boss
14.84 an hour when I left
No time off during holidays

New place:
Unionized (all the food service on the campus is under the same union)
40 hours protected right off the bat
Boss who works on the floor
20.18$ an hour (as a barista!)
We get the same time off the students do, so a week for thanksgiving, a week for spring break, and almost a month for winter break, plus during those times I can get unemployment very easily.

You have no idea how much you could gain from unionizing.

I’d be all in for unionizing if people weren’t getting fired for organizing. Not a great time for me to lose my job rn lol, Glad you found a better spot though!

have you seen the decisions rolling out requiring sbux to reinstate the workers they wrongly fired??
