I am begging y’all from the depths of my soul, if you are sick, please do not come to work. I understand that many managers and shifts are very shitty and try to pressure people to come in while sick, but you have a legal and ethical responsibility not to come in and handle food and drink while you are sick. I’ve had a long-awaited surgical procedure scheduled for next week that I have to now reschedule because a coworker spent three shifts working sick without a mask and without informing us. I am begging you people, please do not subject your coworkers or your customers to your illness. They could be immunocompromised, have pre-existing conditions, or (like me) have things scheduled that they need to be well for. Have some respect for others, please.

That's why I hate the partner check in And state guidelines. I'm sick and should not be working imo, I don't wanna get others sick, but both those say I should still work :/ I AM wearing a mask though, sorry your coworker sucks

It goes both ways, especially if you wear a respirator mask like KN95 or an N95

Does anyone else find is disgusting when they cough or sneeze into their shirt/hand…like as soon as I hear that gagging or hacking noise I’m out.

To be fair, the customers are about a million times worse with this than any employees. But we still have a responsibility to other people’s health and wellbeing

i will say that i have asthma and allergies so i cough a lot but i try to suppress it as much as possible and always do it in the crook of my elbow away from people (and i still wear a mask constantly) so i try to take that into consideration when i hear others coughing but when i hear someone with a super wet cough i just wanna tell them to gtfo 😂

Can barely handle wiping my forehead on my shoulder much less coughing while on bar so I feel

Did they pass the partner check in? If they weren't passing the partner check in then IMO they should be disciplined for not being transparent about their health.
If they did pass the partner check in then I feel like that just shows how the partner check in is insufficient. I wish SMs would encourage partners to stay home/call out if they are feeling sick, period. I went in literally with Covid recently bc my only symptom was a sore throat, and the partner check in says you have to have a sore throat accompanied by a fever. So I thought I was in the clear, didn't even think to myself "oh hey wait a sec what if I have covid...", or "what if I have something really contagious". I trusted that if my symptoms meant I wasn't safe to work, then the partner check wouldn't allow me to work. But that's not true.
I'm happy too that we're able to accumulate sick pay faster now
Sorry you're going through this.

I was not calling the play on the day I worked with them so I’m not sure. I fully intend to have a word with every barista and shift about honesty on the partner check in and masking in the event of passing the check in while still having symptoms of illness. I understand some people cannot afford to lose hours but the least we can all do is wear a mask when we are contagious and ill. This partner decided not to do that.

(I edited my initial comment btw so might be worth peeking at in case you have other thoughts)
Masking is soooo important, ffs I wish it was still store policy for partners. Especially now that it's cold and flu season. I just can't believe it's not something the food service industry requires employees to wear.
If people pass partner check but are feeling unwell, I totally agree they should be wearing a mask. Another standard I wish we had. I hope your team sees your wisdom and takes it seriously

I’ve been sick for two months (possibly long covid idk) and I always wear a mask. I mean, I’ll wear a mask daily because why even not, but I called out for as long as I could 🥹
MarieCrepes5 points9m ago
I actually just called out today because I woke up feeling sick and someone I live with is also sick. Luckily my store had like 10 people on this morning so it was completely fine.
neilgreenbreen [OP]3 points9m ago
your coworkers and your customers (and me) thank you
greenssv3 points9m ago
If we have diarrhea, vomiting or fever within the last 24hrs we were told to call out....don't come in.
Intelligent-Ad12732 points9m ago
My proxy manager has said that you have to use sick time or you have to come in or you’ll get written up. Even if you’re sick. I don’t know how this company expects us to do that when sick time accrual is abysmal
neilgreenbreen [OP]3 points9m ago
they are breaking not only policy but (depending on where you live) state law. Report your store to the health department and your SM to your DM.

Bro, I just was behind a lady in line who was boasting about working while positive for COVID...
