Did the food markouts policy change? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ew_Oxygen1124
Today one of our partners came through the drive thru to get all of her food markouts, asking for all 7 items (still in packaging) as well as her beans, and as far as I knew, that was allowed. When I was hired at the end of July, my manager told me I had 7 markouts every week, and I could get them any time (on or off shift) as long as it was in my home store. She kind of emphasized that I should come in Sunday to get all my markouts because it was “use it or lose it”. But today, when my coworker came through, our (new - different manager from where I started) Manager turned her away and said it had to be marked out during or immediately before/after her shift, like free drinks. Was this always the policy and I was misinformed? Did my manager say this to get her out of our drive thru during peak? Because my mark outs are some of the only food I get during the week, and my shifts know this and have been letting me come in and grab it on Sunday afternoons. Where would I find up-to-date information on these policies???

Early on in covid you could get a free food markout whenever, even if it wasn't your home store and you didn't work that day.

I forget when, but it was changed to 7 a week.. but has to be at your home store and during, or 30 minutes before/after the shift.

Okay, good to know. I knew that was the policy for drinks, I was just told something different about food when I was hired on two months ago. Any idea where documentation of the policy would be so I can provide everyone with the same information? Because we’ve been giving them out anytime, and as convenient as it is I don’t want anyone to get into trouble :// Thanks!

Partner Hub has it.

You will need to log in to view it. I got there by searching for 'food markout'. The second result leads to the April 11th weekly update. There is a click thru link there which states the exact policy.

Here it is: "Mark out up to seven food items each week at no charge. which can only be taken while on break during your scheduled shift, or during the 30 minutes before or after your scheduled shift at the store where you are working."

Thanks, I appreciate it

Or course! There is also a feature to track your markouts if you lose track of how many you've gotten.

So back in July the mark out policy was what you were told, I believe it was September that it changed.

Food: I was taught up to 7 food markouts per week, up to half hour before or after shift, at home store.
Drinks: As many as you can consume half hour before or after, and during your shift, at home store.
Beans: 1 pound of beans or package of via a week, any store

Your new manager is correct. It’s been that way since October 2021.
