320***** I just got promoted to SSV! I am very excited for this opportunity but I’m really nervous to start over at a new store and leave mine. What advice do you give new SSVs? Do you like being a SSV?

Hii!! I’m also a 320 who just recently got promoted about a month ago! To be honest i’m still learning everything myself but I can say that please ask as many questions as you need to. Dealing with money can be very confusing but it definitely gets super easy with time. Also try and make good connections with your baristas and other shifts! It will make your shifts run smoothly (most of the time lmao). To answer your last question, being a shift (although stressful) is actually a lot more fun and rewarding, at least to me :).

Be firm but fun, asks your partners how their day was. Lead by example and accept when you make mistakes. If you feel you were to rough with a partner, learn to apologize with sincerity.
Whatever your strengths are, teach those to your baristas

Having respect for your partners needs will get your partners to have respect for your needs in return. When you’re running a play and you check how your partners are feeling and you make sure they get all their breaks, it goes a long way. If you’re consistent in that your partners will trust that when you’re running the play, it will be a good shift and they’ll want to do what they can to contribute to that. I’ve seen so many shifts put store needs before partner needs not realizing that you can’t take care of the store if you don’t take care of the partners in the store. There is very rarely a situation in which a break or lunch need to be skipped for any partner on the floor. If the store is not staffed properly for you to run breaks as a shift, mobiles need to be turned off. Yes it will create a loss for the store but that’s on your manager to make sure the store is staffed and operating properly. Respect yourself. Respect your partners.

I love being a shift. It’s not for everyone but for me I love making coffee for a living. I want to open my own coffee shop one day and I feel like the experience I’m getting at Starbucks is going to really help me with the logistics of how to properly run a business and maintain the kind of environment I’m looking to create in my own store. It can be a really rewarding job if you maintain your boundaries but also always give it your best every time you clock in.

Also I’m a 238!
