espresso machine (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by welcome2mybog
hi fellas, this is probably not the right place for this question but i’m not sure who else to ask. i recently decreased the number of hours i’m working per week and i miss being able to make myself a latte whenever i want lol. i’m hoping to find a decent espresso machine without breaking the bank, ideally with a milk wand (i feel like most have this but i’m not sure, i’ve never used any besides at starbs). i’ve found a few online that are like $150 or so, but i have no idea how they are in terms of quality. i guess what i’m wondering is if it’s possible to get a decent quality machine for that amount of money. also if anyone can recommend specific brands or models, that would be a big help! thank you <3

hit up r/espresso but the TLDR is that you’ll need to drop close to 1k to get an industry standard machine. My advice is to get a nice hand grinder (1Zpresso JX-PRO would be my rec) and an aeropress or a picopresso. If you like it and you have the money then you can move up to something like a Gaggia or a mid-range Breville

i found mine at a local thrift store, people donate perfectly good ones all the time, little cleaning and works brand new, maybe it dosnt pull the greatest shots but it works enough to get me my coffee fix

dude I got one for 15$ at my thrift shop! honestly it froths just fine. you don’t need ANYTHING fancy to do the job.

Following. I need something better than a stove top pot.

Honestly I bought a cheap Mr coffee one for school (it was like $50) and it works fine. Obviously not the greatest espresso but it’s decent for the price, especially if you only plan on making lattes. It has a milk wand but I only drink iced lattes so idk how well it steams

I recommend looking for an on sale brevile or simonelli for personnel use, they run a little bit more but they will last well over a decade and much longer if you take care of them well. They also pull great shots and tend to come with a long enough steam wand where you can comfortably froth your milk.

I love love my nespresso it was about 200 but i’ve seen it on sale for much cheaper. They have pods that are refillable but they also sell espresso as well. I am not sure if any of their machines have a steam wand but I know the one I got came with an aerator for milk

I have a breville bambino that I believe was around $350 and it’s perfect. Has a steam wand that works pretty well, although very loud, and pulls pretty good espresso once you learn how to use it. It does not grind the espresso, but you could honestly either get a cheaper grinder or grind beans at work and it would be fine. The quality won’t be as great, but better than nothing for sure!

Honestly my original line nespresso makes pretty good shots. The vertuo line is good but it’s not really espresso, but the original line uses pressure and it’s good! Plus you can buy third party capsules and I can find a box of 10/12 for usually $5
