Grande Rant: DAE have a coworker who tries your patience? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by purseEffphony
I have a co-worker who transferred in from another presumably busier store. They came in basically not knowing anything and are completely unreliable frequent call outs, constantly late for shifts and basically dont know how to do any of the jobs in the cafe without being directed. They have been in our store for 6 months at this point.

The last shift I had with them, they forgot to replace liners in the cafe trash cans. I mean WTAF?!

I really try to be patient and kind to this person but one of these days I'm going to lose my shit and let them know exactly what I think of them.

Im not a shift or manager so I know its not my place to say something but FFS someone needs to!

Just try and be patient and explain things to them - and follow up and make sure they’re still doing it, hours later and shifts later. My trainer was known to be an asshole around the store and never actually taught me anything besides POS so for over half a year I was exclusively POS and solo drive. It took someone investing their time into me and coaching me for me to actually be able to do Jack shit. Be that person.

I know I need to be patient. Most people we hire pick things up fairly quickly - this person just doesn't seem to think things through and cant seem to problem-solve to save their lives. Instead of asking they just half-ass their way through things. Its frustrating because it just seems like they dont care.

It wouldn't even be that big a deal because we all learn at our own pace, but its so frustrating that they are consistently late 30 min or more/ or calling out for shifts.

I will try to be a better coach.

And also talk to your shift/manager. While some things can improve with training/practice/guidance, the call outs/being seriously late issue is something that is on them to deal with.

Really isn't my place to say something. The shift leads and the manager knows this person is late and frequently calls out. It would be inappropriate for them to share with me any action they were taking or why its happening. If I complain it just makes me look petty.

Focus on “addressing” it rather than complaining about it. Like, “hey, I wanted to possibly address some concerns I have about a partner’s progress and development.” Etc, etc
