Working out before morning shift? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TrevorAlexYt
Hello Partners!

I'm an opener. Shifts almost always start at 4:30 as we open at 5am. Are there any other baristas who have found a way to get a little exercise in *before* work? I joined Starbucks during the height of covid with reduced hours so work didn't start until 6am. That coupled with my gym being a 2 min walk from work I would wake up at 4 with my bag all packed, get a quick workout in (no splits, I'd just do 1 push exercise, 1 pull, one core, one leg and either a back/stretch/corrective exercise) Nothing crazy. Not chasing PR's, just a quick full body workout. But as we've eventually got back to our regular hours its quite difficult to get a workout in unless i want to wake up even earlier haha. Anybody with similar issues who prefers morning workouts? Any tips you've found that help to either fit something in or make it easier to transition to a afternoon/night workout? Any help is appreciated!

Open was my favorite shift and before Starbucks I was a competitive distance runner but also hired during peak Covid no races, no gyms. Sometimes I’d be almost late and run down the street to work lol… but I actually like exercising in the evenings. Sometimes it help to split cardio earlier just after shift and weight training at night.

When I was opening I would do a 20 to 30 min yoga video of some swift yoga. It always helped and my body felt so much better at work. I would wake up at 330am

Yeah this worked out for me when we had reduced hours as well. I’d go to the gym at 4AM and be at work at 6AM. I like giving myself 2 hours before work so I can take my time and even get a shower in. Now we have to come in at 4:30 and I’m definitely not going to the gym at 2:30 lol.

Nice, I wish I had one within walking distance, I would love a good wind down after closing.
