how to quit? ()

yup! the things you should include in your letter are the date that you hand it in, clear wording saying it is your 2 weeks notice with the last date you can work being there as well, and your name + signature. you are free to add any details beyond that as well!

if you want an example of formatting, this is along the lines of what your letter could be:

“[the date that you hand in your notice]

Hi X,

I’m writing to let you know that I have decided to resign from my position as barista [or whatever your position is]. Please consider today, [insert date], to commence my final two weeks, with my last day being [insert last date]. Thank you for providing me with this experience, and I appreciate the time I have had here!

Thank you,
Your Name
Your Signature”

and as for the text:

“Hi X, I wanted to let you know that I’ve chosen to hand in my 2 weeks notice effective today. I left a letter with more details on your desk!”

i know it’s super scary to have to do this and completely understand where your anxiety is coming from — just know that your manager has seen a lot of people quit, and being notified of someone handing in their 2 weeks is very par for the course for them.

I would leave your hard copy in a sealed envelope addressed to the SM and tape somewhere eye label above the back desk. That way you have a reasonable expectation of privacy and then text your SM where you left your resignation.

Also if you want further protection email a copy to your sm and bcc yourself. The text provided is excellent.

I would personally email so there's a record of it. Text message accomplishes that too but its kinda tacky.

I totally would, I just have never used email w/my manager and I know they prefer communicating thru txt. given this, do you still think I should email?

I would combine it, email what the commenter above said and then send the text that mentions the email/notice

okay so basically the email and txt should be saying the exact same thing? both just letting my manager know that I’ve left a letter on their desk?

But whatever feels right, just make sure there is a time and date stamped electronic record of you putting in notice.

I was saying email instead of leaving a loose piece of paper on the desk so there's a record of when you left it and exactly what it sent.

I like the format the commenter above said( "this is to inform you that as of Oct 16th 2022 im putting in my 2 weeks resulting in my last day as Oct 31st" etc) email should be more professional /dates for the record. Text can be more casual just letting them know you emailed in your notice (hey manager, just want to let you know I've emailed my two weeks notice to you today)
