What to do if time off isn’t approved (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BittyBun
First post here :))

I just requested time off for my friends top surgery (who is also a partner at the same store) and I’m a little concerned it won’t be approved just because my SM doesn’t really like me? I requested 5 days in total, 1 in November (Pre-Op appointment) and 4 in December (Surgery and 3 days after). I’m scared because its during peak holiday season and close to Christmas but I’m not taking Christmas Eve or Christmas off because of the surgery. I’m the only person who can take him and I’ll be the main person caring for him after. Do I just put in my two weeks right before it if it isn’t approved or do I transfer? Thanks for any advice :(

You try to get the shifts covered and if you can't, you call out sick. Cant work if you're throwing up, but throwing up doesn't stop you from taking care of your friend. The 4 days is a little bit of an issue? Because if you're calling out that many days you need a doctors note, but oh well! Hopefully someone will take a shift

I’ve never had an issue as long as it was plenty of time in advance requested

it is likely that it was auto denied because november and december are black out months for requests off. maybe talk to your SM and explain the circumstances— you have a family member going in for surgery and you’re the only one available to care for them. no need to get into details about it, just leave it at that. if all else fails and they still say no then i guess you have a serious bout of food poisoning that week!

Oh they’re black out months for requests off? Funny my store manager somehow gave himself launch day next week off.

Tbh... call out. In all requests have to be 3 weeks in advance but nice SM allow in person/text requests.

Explain your situation. If they refuse to budge keep trying. Try to do it over texts. And if when the time comes you're scheduled to work just call in sick.

They're fault for not approving you lmaooo they can suck it
