i recently quit the siren and have a question about something everyone in my store did.
we had two regulars that would both order london fog tea lattes. except, they would order them as earl grey tea, no water, add steamed milk (to the top) and syrup.
the tickets wouldn’t print out for this so we would write the order on the cup and hand it off. when we got new baristas, i had some ask me why they won’t just order a london fog with no water.
when i was on reg and they’d come in, i wasn’t allowed to charge them for milk. i was supposed to hit the extra button as told by all of my supervisors.
the main reason im asking is because when i was a barista trainer, this is how i was told to train the green beans when it comes to these two regulars. was this allowed? i know the earl grey by itself is cheaper but they didnt want an earl grey with steamed milk, they wanted a london fog.
we had many regulars that had very specific orders like this. my favourite being the guy that would come in and order a double smoked bacon with an everything bagel instead of the croissants and we got in trouble for charging him for the bagel :)

This annoys the hell out of me because your manager is not only *wrong* but making it more difficult for *other stores*. If I got those clowns…they’re getting charged for a London fog….because that’s what they’re asking for. They can tell me the “other Starbucks” does it all the time and I simply will not care. Your manager is letting them cheat the system and making things more complicated than necessary.
Not putting the order in correctly is not only affecting sales, but it also messes with your milk inventory (even if only by a little). They’d probably pitch a fit if you charged them appropriately, which is creating more mental stress for you and your partners… Can you tell I hate people cheating the system lol

Me too, it’s so annoying. We have this lady that gets 26 pumps of brown sugar and extra oat milk for her venti shaken espresso. And now bc ONE person gave it to her in a trenta cup, she wants it every time.

Interesting. I guess maybe there was an issue somewhere down the line with them and maybe they let them do it that way But yeah I was always told custom tea latte.

this is just a case of letting the customer get away with something once you've set precedent you can't go back without it being bad customer service

They were just coddling entitled customers. As sbux does.
HamburgIar_18 points8m ago
Sbux doesn't. Policy doesn't. Managers without a backbone do.
coffee-and-chillll16 points8m ago
I guess I’ve had quite a different experience at Sbux because in my experience, I think Sbux totally coddles entitled customers. There really isn’t much policy anymore as we’re expected to do pretty much anything possible to “make the moment right”. The moment something doesn’t go a customer’s way, they call corporate and get an apology and a gift card.
I’ve experienced it happen time and time again. To me, it’s not managers fault for not having a backbone. I think we work for a company that doesn’t have a backbone and doesn’t defend its employees, which results in managers having to act without a backbone and bow down to corporate to keep their jobs. Any managers I’ve seen that do have a backbone quit over time because they’re tired of not being able to defend us and the store over policies that the company sets but only wants us to enforce until it’s a problem.
This company will 100% side with its customer base before they ever defend their employees. The way I see it, customers who’s verbal abuse should’ve had them banned from the store continue to come in with no repercussions, and that’s not just because of managers without a backbone, it’s because of managers working for a company without a backbone.

more than 4oz needs to be charged so it would charged as a latte
Inevitable_Emu_2215 points8m ago
This is the way
Thrasheon17 points8m ago
Sounds like your old SM was playing favorites with certain customers.
clouds1838 points8m ago
damn then looks like the crustie is getting a few pumps of syrup, 3/4” of steamed milk, and two tea bags. mostly empty cup. if thats me on bar and that’s what its rung up as then they aren’t getting it filled.
jordan_leigh6 points8m ago
Wrong. It’s a custom tea latte or london fog and up charge for extra milk.
nightimevil5 points8m ago
I don't know how my SM would rule this, but my immediate thought is to just charge them for the London Fog, then modify it with "No Water".
Chromosomes234 points8m ago
More than 1/3 the cup you have to charge for a customer latte
