I quit my job (self.starbucksbaristas)

I quit Starbucks. It was the nicest job I worked but with the shadiest things happening, I couldn’t stand it.

First think was a shift manager made a racist comment about a coworker in front of the store manager. They both laughed and moved on (they were both POC. I don’t understand how or why they did that). I confronted my manager about it in front of the DM and she acted like she didn’t know and then spoke to the shift manager about it.

Same shift manager and a handful of coworkers weeks later begin making pig noises at another shift manager even though they were all overweight.

Multiple shift managers gang up on new shift manager, yelling at her in front of store manager saying she’s stupid and incompetent. Store manager tells new shift manager it’s “apart of their culture” (implying black women are loud and rude bc of culture. Again, she’s a black woman I don’t understand this) and to just move on.

A shift manager wants to go back to their old store due to management at our store. Store manager writes them up for “dress code violation” so that they cannot transfer. Leads to shift manager quitting.

Shift manager that had been racist and fatphobic tells me I’m not disabled, despite me definitely being disabled. Proceeds to r-word me.

I tell this shift manager to please not say the f-slur talking about a trans coworker. She told me to shut up and continued to misgender coworkers and use slurs. She said she’s black so she can use any word she wants. Store manager also misgendered 2 employees constantly despite only knowing them as trans for 5-10 years.

Store manager tells me I don’t get paid for sick or vacation days. Shift manager tells me that’s not true. I confront store manager and she says I made that up.

Store manager writes me up for taking sick days because I didn’t pre approve them (how would I have known 2 weeks ago I would get sick). I quit.

man I guess we finally figured out what the third place really is

hell 😎

in all seriousness though, good on you for quitting. no job is worth having to put up with that garbage — whether it’s directed at you or someone else, that’s a toxic and harmful environment, and you deserve better

hope you get a better job soon. I don’t think most Starbucks are -that- bad, so if you enjoyed the actual work, you could probably get hired at another.
