today, i was helping one of our regulars on drive. he is personally one of my favorites. my coworker recognized his order and immediately started talking over me to finish his order. it infuriated me and i think it’s extremely rude. am i the only one or am i just being possessive and unreasonable?

It’s rude to speak over someone, it’s not just you.

It was rude. Unless you’re having a problem and need someone to step in nobody should take over when you’re handling an order. That does happen also at the register. I’ll take an order and suddenly the barista at cafe bar, shouts WHAT SIZE?? It’s annoying. But I recommend just telling the coworker it’s distracting when you are helping a customer and prefer they not interrupt unless you have asked them for assistance. Otherwise, just let it go and learn when to pick your battles when it’s really important. Learning how to navigate your own reactions which you CAN control, is key to a happier life.

I mean, I say stuff like "what size" or "hot or iced," but only to our newbies. Anything other than that and it seems almost patronising.

oh i can't stand it. i usually don't have ppl talk over the outside speaker channel with im taking orders but sometimes other partners will just continue whatever conversation they were having over headset? like no sorry i am trying to take an order here, and i *will* just continue to speak loudly over headset until you get the hint and shut up. its kind of important to be able to... hear the customer who's ordering, not my coworkers conversation about insurance.

I used to have a huge problem with my coworker talking over me. Initially I thought it was because I was new, but it continued happening for Months, so I eventually got fed up with it and told him to Hush the next time it happened. He got really defensive and told me That was rude. I informed him that constantly talking over people is much more rude and so my hush was justified. He didn’t do it again.

This might be the one time he orders something different too. Some people really need to chill out.
