Simple put SM must give you 12 hours, everything else is at SM discretion. All other partners must also get minimum 12 hours , have she hired more green been since you been there? The reality is most SM are all talk and that is about all. Eventually she will probably will take you down to 20-25 hours a week.

Damn. If that happens, I will be working somewhere else
Wspitsamanda9 points8m ago
that’s what mine is right now. for a while i was working a good 40+ hours per week, next week i’m scheduled for 25 and my sm says that’s just how it got scheduled, since sbux doesn’t guarantee houra
canadiancookie983 points8m ago
Wait wait, they MUST give 12 hours!?
looker0095 points8m ago
Yes, you can't work less than 12 and need to have minimum 18 hours of availability. That is for corp stores in US
rtsneedshelp26 points8m ago
Sbux is notoriously dishonest when it comes to hours, and it’s very difficult if not impossible to maintain traditionally full time hours here. You can try asking to pick up hours at a nearby store if it’s feasible in your area.
Vegan_Sweetie8 points8m ago
I do that, whenever I can, but still have difficulty staying above the water . These days not many people are giving up time

Sorta of related… you do not have to be a barista for a year before promoting to ssv. It’s a 6 month threshold for career progression. You can apply to any open ssv positions on the Starbucks career website after being a barista for 6 months.

Local coffee shop gives me 35-40 a week. Way less stress and effort I recommend looking into that route if you want to work in coffee and sustain yourself
clouds1836 points8m ago
you could unionize your store because I’m certain you’re not the only one thats upset about hours being cut :)
Vegan_Sweetie0 points8m ago
No thank you! Being fired is the last thing I want. 😬
clouds183-14 points8m ago
you do know that sbux has been forced to reinstate so many workers they *ILLEGALLY* fired in retaliation, right?
but fine whatever continue being miserable in your place of work.

Only person who gets guaranteed hours is the SM
Chhhloem45 points8m ago
As a barista, it’s pretty rare to get scheduled for 35+ hours a week. I’ve seen it a few times at my past stores, but it’s rare. Your availability needs to perfectly match the needs of the store. If you want consistently more hours, moving up to SSV would be your best bet.
I would suggest using any vacation time you may have to add 2-3 hours every week. I apologize I can’t remember when partners begin accruing vacation time.
Vegan_Sweetie1 points8m ago
I also have only been a Partner for 6 months, so I don’t really have any Vacation time yet
Vegan_Sweetie1 points8m ago
I usually get more hours than my SSV’s. 🥲
Chhhloem43 points8m ago
Gotcha. Just because you get more than them now doesn’t mean you still couldn’t get more as a SSV.
Is your availability completely open? That would be my next suggestion. As I and others have said, Starbucks just really isn’t the place for 40 hours a week. (Unless you wanna manage a store and work 50+ hours a week) 33-35+ is considered pretty high.
Vegan_Sweetie2 points8m ago
My Availability is as open as I can possibly make it. I take off 1 day per week.

After becoming SSV, there is a 6-month requirement in each role before promoting up, and you aren't supposed to be able to transfer anywhere unless you've been at your store for 6 months or more (but I've seen that rule broken many times).
But there is **no** wait time to promote from barista to SSV, you could do that now. If your manager doesn't support you, you can transfer and promote immediately. If your expenses are pretty fixed, the increase in pay should be a good buffer for your hours variance, meaning it will matter less if you get 39 hours or 35 hours, you'll still earn enough to pay your obligations. Maybe schedule a PDC and ask your manager to either help get you ready to promote right away, or support a transfer so you can move up in a different store.
If all else fails, reach out to other stores in your district to pick up more hours.
Vegan_Sweetie2 points8m ago
What? I can directly ask other stores for hours? 😵
I thought I had to ask my SM
udderlymoovelous2 points8m ago
Have you asked about being added to other nearby locations on shift marketplace? In between college semesters, I was able to have 38-39 hour weeks by picking up as many shifts as possible at other locations. At my main location, I only get 22-24 hours, but that’s ok for me because I’m in college
