honking while i’m on dto/dtw(self.starbucksbaristas)

hello, i’m a green bean (about a month in) and when i’m assigned both dto and dtw i’m running into this issue where i am about to hand out drinks but i’m currently taking an order and the person waiting by the window honks at me. it always makes me jump a little and get flustered. i’m going as fast as i can. not sure how to handle this…!

Take a minute to breath when it happens. They're not nice people and there's not much you can do except remind yourself that they aren't. It's them, not you.

Wow! I have never had that happen, I’ve for sure heard customers honking at each other/people trying to cut through the line to leave. The only thing I would offer is if you can try and greet the car at the window and take their payment, then take the order at DTO, you may have to also greet the customer at the box and say something along the lines of “welcome, I will be with you in a moment,” that way the dinging won’t continue and both parties know they have been acknowledged. But I also know that the timing doesn’t always work out well. If it’s a customer regularly doing this I would get shifts/managers involved bc that’s not right.

Um absolutely not. Starbucks holds employees AND customers to a respectful third place standard and Starbucks has anti harassment standards for customers too. I’ve never heard of someone honking in the drive thru, but if someone did that and scared me, I would tell the customer that I’m refusing to serve them and ask them to leave. Don’t ever put up with behaviour like that! Totally against Starbucks policy. Get your supervisor and tell them if you aren’t comfortable doing that. Geez I’m sorry that happened to you :( also maybe document when it’s happening and the type of vehicle, or person if they’re a rewards member. Report through the partner hub, that goes above your DM to head office. Get that person banned from Starbucks ❌

I know we aren’t “supposed” to but I always kept the window shut till i was ready to talk to them. Idc. Im not the kind of person who can listen to the headset and the person at window, and the shut window gives off a pretty good indication of “its not your turn yet” as opposed to “it is your turn but im too distracted to help you”
