Is working at other stores a voluntary thing?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by canidieyet_
My SM asks if we can work at other stores and then basically says “wellll you actually don’t have a choice and I’m sending you anyway”
We’re getting scheduled at our store for 4-6 hours and then sent to other stores for an additional 4 or whatever. I’m not okay with that, and I refuse to end up working 10 hours because other stores are having staff difficulties. Not to mention every other store in our district is 40 minutes or more away from me & I refuse to drive further than 30 minutes since that’s what I already drive.

The partner guide says that you may be asked to work at other locations and will be expected to do so, but the way your SM is doing it is definitely awful

I would 100% put down mileage for how far you go out of your way to get to the other store

Furthermore, when a manager is asking someone to work another location, mileage ALWAYS applies

What does this mean

To my understanding, It means Starbucks has to pay you your travel time and a cost per mile for having you work at a different store, especially if going from one to the other in the same shift

Sorry I’m at work and didn’t elaborate. I have been told by my manager that whenever a manager asks you to pick up at another store it’s okay for mileage. But for example if a partner voluntarily picks up and works at another store you do not receive mileage

How do we receive mileage?
Also my manager asked me originally if that was something I was open to so I could get more hours, and I said yes. So now a couple times a week, I work at another store. Does that count as me volunteering?

This true I applied work at store that being built . They sent me 35 mins away for training and every shift I worked I got 25$ for gas.

Sounds like you got a flat tire on the way over :)

For 4 hours?

I remembered my first SM guilt tripping me about why I couldn’t be compensated for the milage to the store I was sent to due to renovations at my own store Saying “well you are the only few who could drive if not I wouldn’t have sent you there” fully aware that I was attending collage on the other side of town.
Basically confirm you’ll be paid milage , if not? It’s not happening, period.

my SM is on top of mileage. i did a milk run (store was literally in the same parking lot, drive two doors down) and she tried to have me figure out the mileage…i was like, i’m not worried about that little of a drive lol
Lightheaded_gamer1 points8m ago
Oh ok good at least there’s that lol.
But if any case even covered by milage, the over 30 minutes drive is a bit pushing it especially if one one store to another and then home.
Maybe talk to your SM about not having you do two stores the same day?
sosaidsmudge3 points8m ago
Yeah the understanding in our district is you’re asked first.

Idk about other countries, but for me (I‘m inside the EU so my contract may differ) it was part of my contract :/
