i don't know if you can count this as a tip per se but i'm also still a fairly new barista so i usually just follow the official sequencing training 😅

for hot drinks, i steam milk for drink #1, pump whatever syrups, queue shots, then prepare milk for drink #2. if milk #1 is done steaming, i replace it with milk #2, then finish drink #1 when shots are done. then i repeat the process for drink #3 by replacing milk #2 with milk #3, and so on. sometimes when i'm in a groove with my 2nd bar support, they'll pump the syrups for me and pour the milk in the pitchers. and when i'm 2nd bar support, i'll do the same. of course, you'd need to actively communicate that with your partner, to make sure you're not just getting in each other's way.

hope this helps..? if not, sorry 😅 i have nothing to give really.

great ! queuing shots then pumping syrups will be a little bit fast and a more fluid motion! but that may be hard for newer baristas who may not have the layout of their syrups memorized yet

edit: too add, there is starbucks standard sequencing, but that was made before people had 8 million different customizations, so sometimes i do work out of sequence, but its purposeful. my rule of thumb is to do the thing that will take the longest first/ what youll be waiting on (applies to oven as well)

example: if a latte came out, and then a frapp (in that order) i would make the frap first, because in general fraps take longer, so while the frap blends, ill steam the milk, queue shots, and do the syrups, while all that is steaming/queuing i will go back to the frap to finish. then the latte is an ez finish.

sorry if this is too much... its hard to explain through typing ;(

oh yes! i should have mentioned that for that exact reason (not yet memorizing syrup layout) i pump syrups first. i used to try queuing shots then pumping syrups, but i couldn't put the cup back in time for the shots 😅 waiting for muscle memory to kick in and save me the trouble lol.

that sounds like it'd be a lot of help, thank you, i'll try that when i can! i'm still not fast on fraps at all so i feel like i should wait til i'm a little better with them? 😂 the more experienced ssv's and my manager really stresses about dead shots, so i'd worry about that too if i take too long on even putting the ingredients together in the blender before going back to my latte

Use! Both! Bars! If you have the opportunity take advantage of the fact that you can technically have four espresso beverages in various stages of production at a time! It’s even nicer if they’re all latte’s!

Im not sure if we’ve made it an official part of sequencing but when you get iced drinks with cold foam (which oh my god you will) use this sequence:
1. Pump syrup (usually white mocha)
2. Pull shots
3. Start foam
4. Add milk
5. Add ice
6. Add foam

(7. Add extra caramel drizzle)

I see a lot of people build an entire drink before starting the foam and then just standing there for like 13 seconds waiting for the blender 😂

i would do 3, 2, 1, 4, 5, 6 but my store setup sucks

Something I’ve learned just through practicing on bar, and watching other baristas. is to grab the sticker. Plant it on the espresso machine, like on the shot buttons, steam milk, pull shots, grab cup, pump syrup, catch the shots, and put the sticker on the cup while the milk is finishing and the shots are falling. Idk if it’s actually faster but it feels like it to me idk
