Question/Rant about my SM and Shifts(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Dear-Document4981
I recently transferred stores to escape an extremely toxic work environment. TLDR of that situation is that I kept getting bs writeups and bullying and harassment from baristas and shifts alike. I’ve been here for a little over a month, maybe closer to two. In a lot of ways, the new store is much better, but I’m still running into some of the same problems. I’ve been written up every single time I’ve seen my SM (3 times). She said that multiple shifts have reported me for similar reasons. I’m so annoyed and frustrated because nobody will tell me in the moment what I’m doing wrong and how I can be better before it results in a writeup because of “repeated behavior”. Also, some of the things that I’ve been written up for are completely untrue, or I just have no recollection of doing. I’m so frustrated. What should I do??

It’s kinda hard to answer without knowing any details about the write ups. What are they reporting?

Being on my phone out on the floor, half completing tasks, and “insubordination” were some of the things I was written up for.

Are you neurodivergent in any way? Could definitely still just be bullying/harassment/discrimination. Just with how it’s so many people at both stores, I wonder if it’s something like “people think they’re communicating something to you but you aren’t recieving that communication, so they think you’re being insubordinate.”

yes, I have pretty bad ADHD and possibly am on the spectrum. And I think you’re probably onto something with that. Thank you!

Yeah, that'd be the kind of thing that you can't expect accommodations if you're not asking for them / no one is aware. But your decision how you handle it from here of course.

I also have severe adhd, with added severe depression and anxiety, and I’m going through the same situation but a little less toxic :( I don’t understand how I can just magically fix myself every time I come into work. I would talk to the DM about everything and then file for a disability (I havent done it yet but I really need to) so that they can recognize this is a serious issue and you need patience and maybe a different type of learning style to succeed in your new store!

Ya those kinda sound like bullshit write ups. Have you spoken to your DM?
Dear-Document4981 [OP]5 points8m ago
I haven’t. I’ve heard horror stories about her though, so I’m pretty nervous to speak with her.

Just a heads up that if you call PCC with a complaint, they will just give it to your DM.

Starbucks says they take harassment very seriously. Contact Starbucks partner support or the harassment lesson in mylearning has all the contact info for such situations. You need to report it.

I personally ask at the end of my shift how I did and anything I could do better that way there's like a 1 on 1 with the supervisor and able to talk abt things they don't like. Every supervisor is different so know what u could do and can't do with some

They need to set expectations for you. However, you need to level up and do the job as needed.
