I mean, for water with inclusions it’s fine to do a custom iced tea, not a custom tea latte, but otherwise yes

that's what I mean, I'll make an edit, thank u

Oh now that you mention it I think I hit the wrong button yesterday for that. She changed her drink when she found out the price though 🤷🏻‍♀️

You’re 100% correct, this is how it’s supposed to be charged. You can let them know that ringing in drinks incorrectly on purpose can be considered theft by the company and that you don’t think it’s worth losing your job over. That’s really what it comes down to. Part of your job, what you’re being paid to do, is to uphold certain standards.

okay thank you

I had a shift tell me why it matters, and it makes sense now. Water with berries is INTENTIONALLY priced so that customers WONT get it. It's fairly difficult to source the berries, so they want to make sure they're going to the drinks designed for them. If everyone got a water with berries, they wouldn't be able to get enough for the refreshers, so Starbucks intentionally prices it so that no one gets it.

I have actually never had this explained to me so thank you!
daphneadora9 3 points 8m ago
Also, it’s all calculated labor.
neighborrcat 17 points 8m ago
you’re doing it right. imo, it’s super frustrating to me when starbucks will drop something like this in one weekly update and expect it to be done right consistently. why would new partners know to do that? i’m a trainer. it’s not in the training. i rarely ring that up so i forgot until it happened and wasn’t 100% sure so i had to ask my manager.
GoldennTrash 12 points 8m ago

tell them you know it’s silly but it has to be done. explain why it was enforced, and offer to be the one to explain to the customer. i also often will let customers slide on the water charge but tell them how itll be charged next time
thechamelioncircuit 4 points 8m ago
It just fucking sucks because every single time the customer gets so upset and one of my shifts tells me to just give it to them so there’s really no damn point.
aee78 12 points 8m ago
You're shifts aren't doing their jobs then. I agree people get upset pretty much every single time and say that other stores are doing it and as I shift, I almost always have to step in. Most the time I usually just ask, "which store has been doing that for you so I can contact our DM and let them know to coach standards". They usually just leave or order an actual drink. I told one lady that was yelling, if she wanted to be served anything she needed to speak to us respectfully or she'd be asked to leave. She stormed off cursing at us and saying the was calling corporate. So I filed an incident report.
thechamelioncircuit 4 points 8m ago
They honestly do their best; our customers in particular are very quick to anger, and don’t give a fuck about what Starbucks wants us to do.
aee78 3 points 8m ago
I think my store's lucky both our DM and SM worked their way up in Starbucks, so are fine we with us telling people they need to be respectful or they need to leave. So I'm perfectly fine if people get angry, they can die mad about it in the parking lot.
tbb10 1 points 8m ago
Until they say it’s a licensed store that doesn’t have the custom tea option. So the only way to do it is to “add inclusion”
aee78 3 points 8m ago
I use to be the team lead at a Tarbucks, I'd tell people we can't do it at all as I can't charge you to corporate dictates.
Jaded_Fun_7133 2 points 8m ago
It is correct, it was in a weekly update during the summer
iamthegodess1234 1 points 8m ago
It messes with our labour too. Better to follow standard and you are right to put it as custom tea latte
defendpoppunk77 1 points 8m ago
That’s correct! It all goes into labor and inventory calculations as well. (While in this case the inventory doesn’t matter as much) Ringing it in correctly ensures you all get the labor hours you deserve for the extra work involved in making it.
photo_rain 1 points 8m ago
So my manager said it isn’t worth the headache and to just make the customers happy and charge just for water plus adding the inclusions
giftedburn0ut 3 points 8m ago
my manager disagrees heavily haha
photo_rain 3 points 8m ago
Your manager is correct lol!
