so my ssv forgot to run my 30…venti sized rant :/(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ManufacturerOk5442
today was pretty slow, but typically breaks aren’t allowed to be run during peak (at least if my SM is there). when it got around the time to run my 30 my SSV said they were gonna run my 10 instead due to that fact. which ok whatever that’s fine.
I only had about 2 hours left of my shift when I realized still hadn’t gotten my 30. we started to run out of product, so I was asked if I’d be ok going to pick up stuff from another location near by. which of course I didn’t mind, but I did remind my SSV that I hadn’t gotten my 30.
I didn’t end up leaving to go get the product until an hour before my shift was about to end. I told my SSV that I wouldn’t have enough time for my 30 because it would take an hour in total for me to go pick up the stuff we needed. I was kinda ignored in response.
I went anyways and got back 5 min before my shift was supposed to end. As soon as I got back my SSV asked if I had taken my 30 while I was out. like…what?? I explained to them that I didn’t because by the time I left I only had an hour which it took 30 min to get to the other Starbucks and 30 min to get back. So obviously I had no time to take a break, and even if I did why would I take a 30 before giving us the products that we needed.
So I didn’t get my 30 and my SSV started asking if they were gonna get in trouble for that. To which another SSV responded saying that even if they did get in trouble it was technically the morning SSV’s fault for choosing to run my 10 rather than my 30.
Idk if I’m just not understanding, but like that makes no fucking sense to me. Like I’m pissed that they’re trying to get out of trouble and blame the morning SSV. and they also had the balls to text me after I clocked out saying that they did ask me to take my half when I was out. Which they didn’t, but my points still stand. I had no time for a 30 and they knew that.

Also you wouldn't be able to take your break when you were out as you were actively still working. You were also at a different store gathering products, it would have been impossible. They should have gone themselves or sent an evening partner to get the items and breaked you.

LITERALLY THANK U, that’s exactly what I was thinking
ZenPrince62 points8m ago
That is not okay, they need to work on their time management
whatcakepopsdouhave28 points8m ago
Not even only just their time management, straight up their capability of caring for others. I feel bad when people get their breaks late, I can't imagine straight up ignoring/ actively avoiding someone's 30 :( That's so not fair
ZenPrince5 points8m ago
This, unless my baristas and friends tell me they want theirs later I always prioritize their breaks over my own. Thats just unacceptable :/

Store manager needs to be notified so that these shifts can be coached, it’s all of their fault that your meal wasn’t ran. Things like that are very simple to communicate and it sounds like your shifts pawn off tasks on each other, which leads to inexcusable things like this happening
ManufacturerOk5442 [OP]15 points8m ago
yeah I’m definitely gonna talk with my SM tomorrow, like I’m not trying to get anyone in trouble but this is ridiculous. and I’m always super flexible & I don’t mind getting my breaks really early/late. it just makes this situation all the more irritating
wormybabybabu8 points8m ago
You need to let the sm know asap bc they might adjust your time to accommodate a 30min lunch when you should be paid for the full time you were working
ManufacturerOk5442 [OP]9 points8m ago
good point! I was just thinking about that too. my SM usually texts us when they realize that we forgot to punch out bc they like to take the opportunity to “coach” us on the importance of time punches. but I definitely don’t want them just assuming I forgot.

Doesn’t feel good but they need to get in trouble, especially if it was obviously their fault and they tried to blame you.
Danny_z647 points8m ago
You don't have to say yes to picking up product. Next time they try to pull that, tell them you want your lunch first, then you can pick up product some time after. If you gotta stay on the clock Extra, which you basically did, then so be it. U deserve to get paid for it
ManufacturerOk5442 [OP]1 points8m ago
yeah I know! when I agreed to pick up product I still had enough time left in my shift where I could still take my 30 when I got back. they just didn’t end up sending me until later, and that’s when I reminded them again that I still needed my half. usually I wouldn’t have minded staying longer so I could’ve taken a half but I wasn’t able to stay late that day. but I’ll definitely be more adamant about taking my half if something like this happens again
missgurll1 points8m ago
if something like this happens again i’d also suggest asking if you could leave 30 minutes early to make up for it
ManufacturerOk5442 [OP]2 points8m ago
usually that’s what I’d do so I was trying to rush to get back so I could just leave early buuuut sadly that didn’t happen :/

One time a particularly awful SSV failed to run my break. Not only that they had run several partners 30s who came in much after than I did. When I pointed out on the dcr I still needed a break I got cussed out. First yelling from the back. Then over the headset when I asked them not to yell at me where customers could hear. I reported them to the DM. They got fired. I got promoted to manager within the year. Speak up
ManufacturerOk5442 [OP]2 points8m ago
holy shit that’s horrible, I’m so happy to hear that they got fired & that u got promoted. I’m definitely gonna talk to my SM today so I guess we’ll see what happens

sometimes ssv’s are so miserable bc they don’t take their own breaks that they just don’t even prioritize breaks for others. it’s wrong and totally messed up but I’ve seen the “well if I can’t then you can’t” mentality happen. not usually to this extent though. i’ve seen people ignore second 10s moreso. i’m sorry this happened, especially because you spoke up for yourself and were still ignored. like there’s no way they “forgot” it was absolutely intentional. I really would talk to your manager about it and maybe if you’re comfortable, remind the SSVs in question that it’s quite literally their legal responsibility and to be successful in this role, they have to prioritize partner care.

at this point my store is always busy so i just say f*** it and run the breaks anyways at the time it’s suppost to be ran.
if customers get mad well then maybe corporate should give us more labor hours.. cause yaknow.. they are like a billion dollar company
ManufacturerOk5442 [OP]1 points8m ago
LITERALLY PREACH! Like they want us to have 9 people on the floor during peak but won’t allow us to schedule more than 8 people. And ofc all our breaks are scheduled right in the middle of peak
