Sick time question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Mr-Yoop
I was booked for 1 shift this week. I claimed a shift on the app (it was training, which apparently I am not allowed to do). I then got sick and was not able to work that shift OR the shift I was scheduled for today. According to my partner info I have 3.9 hours of sick time. My question is, will I have to work 24 hours next week? I am already booked for 12 next week. I feel like since I got sick I shouldn’t have to make up shifts but tbh I’m new to this and I don’t entirely get their policy. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

There is no making up hours. You miss your shifts for that schedule week, that's it. The next week is a new week. You won't add to it. If you're scheduled for 12, you work 12. If you *want* to pick up more and you get approval to do so, then you can work more. Your post is a little confusing, so I hope I'm answering your question.

Yeah I think that answers it. Thanks!

No you don’t have to make up shifts.

You do have to maintain an average of 12 hours worked per week over the quarter. The 3.9 hours of sick time count towards that. Over the other 12 weeks of the quarter you will need to “make up” those hours if you normally work exactly 12, since your average will be under that. If you work 12 some weeks and like 16 others then you don’t need to worry about it.

(the 3.9 hours of sick time only count if you use them)

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you, I appreciate it!

you’re just saying words

How can I make it more clear?

you are not going to get more hours next week because you were sick this week😭 the schedule is already out…

I’m asking if I will have to make up shifts. My manager has changed my schedule during the week previously so I don’t see why it wouldn’t happen again if I have to make up shifts.

You don’t *have* to make up shifts unless you want to pick up the extra hours
