If you do sue them into the ground. Your health comes first.

Health comes first, AND protect yourself- talk to Sedgwick and get an LOA started. It’s annoying, but that way you’re legally protected.
Raging_raven17 11 points 8m ago
YES THIS! Contact Sedgwick, you can even have someone else like family help file for you , they have that option. I went in leave for two weeks, plus you get 2/3 of your pay that you misss.

Im an ssv, and i had police approach me on my shift responding to a call asking for a wellness check. Ultimately i agreed to leave work and get admitted and I'm glad i did. Make sure you get the Leave of Absence paperwork done and in order and your job will be there when you're better. Ideally your manager and sedgewick will guide you through it later.
edreesmiraki 7 points 8m ago
the police? really? if u dont mind me asking why they pulled you aside
Marmiadon 26 points 8m ago
I dont mind at all. I love talking about myself, so this'll be tmi. But trigger warning for anyone reading, you should know what this is about.

My roommates called 911 because they found a gun in my bed, and they knew my mental state at the time. I had two guns and i didnt really have any intentions with them, but in my horrible state it felt weirdly comforting having it close. So my roommates were rightly worried that i might have been a danger to myself and/or others.

So they called 911 to do a wellnes check and in Florida I was technically "baker acted" which just means i was involuntarily institutionalized. Even though i went willingly and I'm honestly not sure the officers i talked to were convinced I needed it.

After my roommates called and explained why they called the police set out and found me at work. It was slightly embarrassing but ive always found my store to be a safe place, so nobody really judged me for any of it. More so they just worried about me.

Its my understanding that most other states have a version of the baker act, but i could be wrong. I was held a little over the minimum 3 days, and my family took care of my guns.

Since then ive gotten a lot better, it was just a pretty scary time and being institutionalized really gave me some perspective. That was probably a lot more info than you needed sorry lol.
jazzysoranio 7 points 8m ago
That wasn’t tmi. It was interesting and a perspective that many of us have never seen. I’m glad it has what sounds like a happy ending.
kivakitty23 5 points 8m ago
My brother had a similar thing happen where he was involuntarily institutionalized. His friend called 911 and had paperwork filled out when he was worried about my brother doing something to himself.. my brother was taken to a mental hospital and they kept him for 5 days. Afterwards they referred him to a therapist and gave him medication. Unfortunately my brother stopped taking the medication, never told us he had a therapy appointment, and 3 weeks later he disappeared for two days. Shut his phone off. Police came to my parents door to tell them he had been found.. he had taken his life in a grass field. This happened this past year.

Mental health is sooooo important. Make sure you take care of yourself and make sure when you leave the mental hospital you tell your loved ones what you need from them. I heard it’s harder when you get out and you need support more than ever until you can figure out how to regulate yourself if you are on medication, or if you choose not to take it. Just make sure you have someone you trust. Tell someone if you have appointments, let someone take you, and be your support. I can’t stress it enough.

Much love to you in your mental health journey.

thanks so much for the comments and advice. without revealing too much, after making this post i saw my therapist and have figured out something else for now, so hopefully i will be able to get better without needing the hospital. but i still feel unstable and will keep this advice in mind in case i don't feel better and truly end up with no choice but to go. thank you everyone
mrcupcake18 3 points 8m ago
I was faced with a similar decision. Yes please please let you’re work know and I’m sure they will understand and if not then well yes sue lol but for real please take care of yourself and from someone who knows, I love you and support you and I’m here for you and please message me you wanna talk, even though I’m just a stranger off the internet

Contact sedgwick and get your 2/3 disability pay. The nurse at the hospital cab help you with the forms (part of their job)

No. Go. Please. I called the store crying from the psych ER and everyone was amazing.

Also the store was first place when I got out of the ER since I wasn’t legally allowed to go home anymore :/.

if you get fired hire a lawyer.
heyuhitsyaboi 11 points 8m ago
Best of luck OP, hang in there
Minimum_Salary_6319 7 points 8m ago
i got randomly admitted and wasn’t able to let them know. had a bunch of missed calls but just explained myself and my manager was awesome about it. if you’re managers not as good you can take it to court or to partner resources
AtTheBarMatt 5 points 8m ago
We had a partner disappear, no one could get ahold of them. They were separated, but as soon as we found out they were in the hospital for mental health their job was reinstated. Since you know you need to go get a LOA but I’d say you’d probably be safe regardless.
AuntieRia1128 5 points 8m ago
Definitely go. Your life is worth far more than your job. But also, I agree if for some reason they fire you, sue. We will All support you ❤️

It wouldn’t surprise me if they did. I’m a trans woman on HRT and while I don’t get to experience the full joys of that special time of the month, I still get some of the side effects like bloating, cramps, mood swings, hot flashes, and even morning sickness. One morning I got up, went to work, everything was fine and then 15 minutes in I ended up getting sick. I try to explain to the SSV that it wasn’t Covid related, but she kept saying I had to be sent home due to company policy… After I got sick I felt 100 times better and was ready to get back to work but considering this is also a shift manager that I don’t get along with, she started to get a little angry in her tone and insisted that I go home. Even after I told the store manager about what happened, there was no action taken against the ssv and I was given a write up Because due to other illnesses that I have I didn’t have enough sick time.
Inner-Ad-4348 1 points 8m ago
no they can not legally fire you for a mental health emergency. if they do, sue them. I’m sure, as always, the management will make you feel guilty for not making it to your shifts but fuck that my dude. take care of yourself first, always.
hahadrums 1 points 8m ago
I'm an ssv who had to go to the mental hospital the other week. While there, they said it was illegal for them to fire me, and my manager was quite understanding too
hollsberry 1 points 8m ago
No, but please call PCC immediately. You can get a medical leave of absence and if you’ve worked for enough months partial pay for up to 30 days.
lysisonline 1 points 8m ago
i just unexpectedly had to be out for 2 weeks because i was put in a mental health impatient program. my managers are amazing but even if yours aren't no you cannot get in trouble or be fired or anything. go and take care of yourself friend
babieecuuhz 1 points 8m ago
I just took a week off because I was sick. You’ll be fine
StickyNoteMurdercat 1 points 8m ago
If you do your manager is a dick. One of my coworkers had to go & our manager was more than understanding. It’s a health issue & you shouldn’t be afraid to go get some treatment for it & please don’t be afraid to ask for help. I wish you well & I hope it helps. 💖
