Break timing?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Alive-Minute-3896
So my store has to close early bc our only closing shift had to call out sick. We are closing at 5 instead of 9. My coworker has only been working her shift for about 4 hours and was given her 10 at the correct time. But 30 minutes later our mid shift supervisor said she has to take her 30 now otherwise she won’t get one later. Is this okay?? I feel like it shouldn’t be so close together and they should be spaced out more.

It’s allowed yes, and ideally they’d be more spread out but with your store closing early, it may not be possible to do that with business needs. She can try asking for a second 10 later if it’s possible.

4 hours into your shift is a long time to wait for your 10. Everywhere I’ve worked you got them 1.5-2 hours into the shift.

The mid shift was probably trying to catch up on breaks that fell behind.

She was at 2 hours when given her 10. Then 30 minutes later she had to take her lunch. Her entire shift is technically 7 hours, but she only is being given a 10 and 30. I have no clue if any of this makes sense but we just thought it was odd she got them both within the first few hours she was working and it didn’t seem very spaced out. Plus we only had/have 4 people including myself during the mid/early close

I would just chalk it up to the special circumstances of an early close. By the time she got back from her half her shift would have been about half way over and the shift probably wanted all hands on deck and not have to run any breaks during the mid and early closing tasks. Shifts aren’t required to give out the last 10s if it doesn’t fit the business needs.
