T’was the usual Sunday at the bux but one interaction certainly stood out (self.starbucksbaristas)

I was taking a man’s order and he asked for a venti white mocha “with two pumps of diabetes.” I said “what do you mean by that?” Because, does he mean he wants two pumps white mocha, or does he mean he wants two extra pumps, or is he asking for some other kind of syrup on top of the white mocha?? Honestly cringe interaction at this point already but I wasn’t bothered. Just trying to make sure he got what he wanted. He replied “well how many pumps does it normally come with?” I said five. And he replied “*so* then it gets two.” The way he said it, I know he was being condescending. It never ceases to amaze me. Little does he know he’s the one who was not ordering clearly. 🙄 customers always think we’re stupid or something. It really wasn’t a big deal I just wish people could be pleasant 🥹

That would frustrate me so much, like not only is the guy being intentionally obtuse, it’s actually super irritating that he’s calling the syrups diabetes. Like people seem to forget that there are diabetics (type 1) who have diabetes because an organ in their body literally doesn’t work properly, but people turn it into a damn joke that sugar is giving them diabetes. And then if he’s that worried about it, why even order it at all.

I don’t know about anyone else but so many people at my store, including my own manager call peoples’ drinks “diabetes” so maybe he overheard an employee making fun of him before and is just trying to like “own the joke”.

That’s possible, but all the more reason that we shouldn’t be making fun of peoples drinks. I get we’re all going to have opinions about what someone may order but diabetes is a serious disease and probably not one we should be directly making fun of in relation to customers drinks. I mean unless bartenders are going to start saying here’s your cirrhosis in a cup or people who sell cigs start saying here’s your lung cancer 🙄

UGH!! They really act like it’s us that’s stupid. This guy wanted to add three shots of espresso to a pike, so i said “three extra shots” while reading back his order.
He proceeded to talk unintelligibly and angrily for like 3 minutes at the box until I interrupt and say “I’m sorry I can’t hear very well, could you repeat the drink?”
…. He was just mad because I used the word ‘extra’ and he didn’t like the way it sounded.
