someone asked for the caffe latte so I said ok just one grande latte anything else and they were like not latte, caffe latte and I was like bro it’s the same thing and he did not believe me so my ssv had to take over cus he was getting mad

i mean technically in italian latte is milk, caffe is coffee, so caffe latte is espresso and milk, whereas latte is just milk. so he’s not wrong.

the same way this would be useful information for a foreigner in italy, its important to realize how borrowed language changes in meaning as its adopted into other countries and cultures. you can use latte and cafe latte interchangeably in many countries outside of italy. so that customer had no business being so nitpicky about it, regardless if they were just unversed in coffee vocabulary or even if they were actually italian

Customer: can I get an iced latte but like… a little less milky?
Me: umm I can put an extra shot of espresso in there to give it more coffee taste.
Customer: no no I don’t want more coffee.
Me: I can make the extra shot decaf so you still get the flavor but not the caffeine if that works?
Customer: no no you didn’t hear me I just want less milk.
Me: …so are you okay with a little bit of room in the cup?
Customer: no you can fill the cup all the way.
Me: so does extra ice work?
Customer: NO. You’re not listening to me. Listen to what I say. A latte. Just less milk.
Me: oh okay🫠
By then I was so done with dealing with her that I asked my DTR to explain to her what a latte is when she got to the window so she would understand what she’s ordering is impossible.

I’ve had so many people ask me what’s in a latte lately and I’m just like um ok I guess lol. I mean in their defense I didn’t know exactly what it was before I started working here
