I just started ASU and I already feel behind? Anyone have any tips or tricks to not feel so overwhelmed with reading material and lectures?

Use a planner! Write down everything you have to do and when you’re going to do it. Especially if you’re in classes that only have stuff due on Sundays, it’s important to pace yourself so you’re not driving yourself insane every Sunday night.

Find a good study space and find out what you need to do to learn best. For me that often meant *not* always doing all the readings because they’re dull, and spending more time on practice problems instead (ymmv obviously if you’re studying literature and not programming)

Also, a lot of professors talk slow. Watch on 1.5x speed and pause if you need more time.

I'm a senior and balance 30hrs of work plus raising a family. It's easy to feel overwhelmed very quickly with short classes if you don't practice time management. To get an A in a course they say you should alot 18 hours a week. I find that number is a little exaggerated but you certainly should spend at least 10 per class per week. Do 2 hrs a day and see if that makes it feel more manageable. If not maybe increase it to 2.5 hours. The weeks I feel most overwhelmed are the ones I save all my work for one or two crazy 8 hour homework sessions. Don't do that.

Literally did like two weeks worth of work bc of procrastinating and losing track of due dates, had a mental breakdown and y’all said planner, I got one, I color coded that bitch and I’m doing my best to stick to it and on the days that I don’t do what I wrong down I’m moving it over to the next day cause I don’t want to miss anything and it’s only been like a day lol but it’s already helping me a lot

I work 38hrs and do 16credit hrs. Just staying consistent with how much you study each week and just stay on a rhythm. I pick a day I don’t have work or school so I can have a mental break and do things to take care of my well being. Took me a moment to find a groove.

That’s really smart though. I don’t work weekends and neither does my bf so I’m trying to give us those days but I gotta play come catch up first
