just closed for the first time as an SSV(self.starbucksbaristas)

I think I did pretty well, but I didn't realize until I got home that I didn't turn the lights off. How much trouble am I in? I of course plan to text my SM and opener to let them know

If I had to guess, zero trouble
Heck, I’m *supposed* to leave the lights on all night for security
Chromosomes237 points8m ago
Our store does the same

Same. We almost got robbed but the dudes decided not to rob us anymore because we had lights on. Instead, they went to a Starbucks ten minutes away to rob them because their lights were completely off. My coworker saw those guys by our store minutes before they robbed the other place.

Congratulations!
It’s your first solo close, I would hope the answer is no trouble. Hell, I’ve walked into a store with four year SSVs to find the damn safe not closed all the way, or a drawer still in the register.

We're required to leave the music and lights on in our district. So probably none?

None. Not really a bid deal. Maybe a quick “make sure you turn the lights off” and that’s it
Chromosomes238 points8m ago
The big ones- correct money handling, making sure the building is locked and armed.
yungfroggie6 points8m ago
absolutely none lol i’ve has closes where the ssv turns off all the lights, some leave all of them on, and i personally leave them half on so you can still see. they mean nothing hahaha
rtsneedshelp5 points8m ago
A lot of stores (mine included) leave them on for security reasons, so you’re probably fine. Especially if it was the first time.

As long as all the money is accounted for and locked away in the safe, the doors/window are locked up, and the alarm is set, everything else can be fixed tomorrow. Don’t sweat the little stuff.
Eta: also fire/electricity hazards (window heater off, ovens off)

Policy is to keep lights on and shades up, not down, so people can see into the store. This is for safety
vanilllacakez1 points8m ago
You’re good bro someone has left dt window / SIDE DOOR unlocked before 🤦♀️
Gingerzygote1 points8m ago
honestly theres so much worse you could've done as a new ssv lol don't sweat it. i'm not a ssv (trainer) but as an opener, i've walked into some WILD closes from new shifts and we usually don't even blame them because well, there's a lot for them to get used to! congrats on becoming a shift btw!
