Help? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Beneficial-Apricot31
Hi i just started at Starbucks this past weekend was my training. At first training was very unorganized and didn’t quite make sense but everything is going ok so far but i did have some questions that i feel i couldn’t ask my coworkers or manager or shift supervisor. Today was my third day of training and i just started the hot bar such as lattes/cappuccino/macchiatos and etc. . But i was having a really hard time trying to remember all the numbers of pumps and shots and this coming saturday i have training again but for cold bar so if anyone can help me remembering those i’d appreciate it. Also i feel very overwhelmed and i don’t want to quit it either but i wanna know if this job is really worth it ?

a trick my supervisor taught me for syrups! say it in ur head every time you go to get some/

short short tall grande venti iced trenta.

so short sized drinks get two pumps, talls get three, grande four, etc.

the iced is for venti iced drinks because they get one pump more than venti hot ones!

and for caramel macchiatos they get one less pump than usual.

good luck !!

edit: here’s a link to a cheat sheet. idk if ur canada or usa or somewhere else but the espresso shots part is the same for everywhere.

There was a post recently, yesterday or the day before, that had what you are looking for for the hot bar drinks.

To feeling overwhelmed with the job though... That's a natural feeling to have coming into Starbucks. It takes about 3 months to become fully comfortable with all the drinks, positions, and work in general. It is A LOT to take in when starting out. I know I felt like quitting time to time because I was so overwhelmed with learning. I also only had two days of training though to that didn't help :/

To decide if the effort to learn the job is worth it, what are you looking for out of a job and/or at Starbucks?

I have been with Starbucks for a little over two years now. I have stayed because
1) My fellow partners are amazing
2) The pay is higher than other places with more intense labour
3) They work with my schedule
4) I haven't found another job in the industry I want
It really all depends on what you are looking for in work and how long you plan on being with Starbucks

Honestly, it will feel overwhelming for the first couple months and that is a normal feeling! Anyone that tells you otherwise is lying. Cut yourself some slack you’ve only been there three days! Also, I am not speaking for everybody here, when I was training partners I liked it when the trainees asked me questions. You are absolutely ALLOWED to ask them and it shows that you are actually willing to learn. REPETITION IS KEY. I remember writing down those basics when I started and I even drew them out. For example, a latte would have espresso shots at the bottom, followed by milk, and topped off with nice velvety foam. I have done this with most drinks. Eventually, I started having dreams about frappuccinos which one came with coffee base or cream base or light base (when we still had it). All this to say, you will be fine! Be nice to yourself, ask questions, and give it some time.

I am new also and it does feel very overwhelming but today my manager reassured me and she gave me a line that could really help us newbies, “ be patient with yourself “. We are learning so many new skills & recipes/ positions at once! It’s normal to feel messy for the first few months but we got this!
