I finally snapped (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bakedpotato_cat
I walked out of work yesterday and I feel extremely bad about the whole situation but I just can’t take it anymore.

The location I work at is VERY busy(like the busiest in our state) and working evenings is hell. We don’t pull the numbers to earn more partners on the floor so we are always fighting for our lives with the few people we have. Yesterday was just one of those days where nothing was going right, plus customers were just being extra confrontational. I was asked to talk to a customer because she only spoke Spanish and the other partners couldn’t communicate clearly with her. She was being rude and making the whole situation very difficult for me then another customer tried to insert himself into the situation (this is just one example of many of stuff that happened that day). But that was my final straw and I took off my headset and clocked off. My ASM then called me asking about the whole situation then said “so you’re just going to leave your whole team behind”.

When I first started my job a little over a year ago I loved it so much. Now I hate it, you walk into the store and the atmosphere is just off. Everyone on the floor is constantly mad at everything and it feels like hell. I have talked to other partners about this and they all feel the same as well. I applied and was hired when I freshly turned 16 and would happily pick up extra shifts and come in whenever I was called because I genuinely enjoyed my job but now it’s torturous just being there. My store’s environment just feels like we are all constantly fighting to see who can get noticed as a “great barista”. It’s exhausting working so hard just for it to go unnoticed.

I feel really shitty about the whole situation but I have also received a lot of sympathy from my shift and other partners, I truly don’t know what to do moving forward.

Sounds like you know what to do. And you will be far better off for it.

You did the right thing, it’s sadly not going to get any better. I’m pretty close to walking out myself.

Be strong my friend, I’ve been holding on for almost 10 stupid years, trying to get my life sorted out. Now that I’m getting life sorted out, I can finally feel the chance of being able to just quit is growing close.

You need to have a long chat with you SM. And if that doesn’t work transfer to a different store.
I’m always amazed at how just one partner can throw off the “vibe” in a store. Don’t let that stop your Siren experience!
Let’s face it - it IS the hardest, fun, job you’ll ever love/hate. Especially being 16/17(?). Why in the world would you be willing to throw away FREE COLLEGE, a 401K, Stock, free Spotify - just to name a few of the many benefits that we can receive. I realize you are young and (I’m guessing here) not thinking about your future but please don’t let a bad location/Partner/Manager potentially ruin your future. Use everything the Siren will give you to your advantage! Don’t let anyone/thing stop your future!
I vote transfer.
