Yeah, I work at Target and have been crosstraining at the Starbucks in our store for and one of my coworkers is really toxic. One of my other coworkers assured me it’s not me, he’s like that to everyone, and it’s like… that doesn’t make it better.

I mean, I’m a realist - we’re a greedy corporate company, that after 10 years of being here - yes, all Starbucks cares about is the money they make. Are we aloud to let our severely sick customers know that our products are bad for them? Well of course not, we’d lose money. Someone losing their lives isn’t worth losing profits, oh no no.
Starbucks doesn’t even pay the bills, I just make enough to not drown. But life is short, there are many things out of our control, so indeed it is best to stay positive, and just have fun talking with people, rolling your eyes as you make those arbitrary window time, with no boost in your own profit.
Your fellow partner sounds like they are hurting from being aware of the corporate greed, I admire them, and welcome them to the club - but I do hope they can get used to the way corporate life is, and remember that this is just a stepping stone. Starbucks uses us, and so we’ll use Starbucks for what we need. Life is too short for such greed, spread kindness and understanding.

I too, am a voice for optimism and hope in a rather pessimistic environment at times. I’ve had success verbalizing the silver lining and realistic humor of life in the green apron.. people seem to appreciate it. keep fighting the good fight, sunshine. :)
