Starbucks is a joke in the serious coffee drinking world, don’t stress it. Just hit auto calibrate and get back to making those window times lower.

I’m not stressing anything. I was genuinely curious if there is any difference. I don’t think there is.
SowMindful41 points8m ago
I see no difference here either, I truthfully wished Starbucks would go back to its higher quality, more manual machines, but that won’t keep up with the profits that Starbucks wants.
HamburgIar_37 points8m ago
Our problem isn't the machines, it's the burnt espresso beans
uwumoment31 points8m ago
whenever i open a new bag of espresso, i smell floral scents, and interesting aromas. i’ve smelled blueberries, marshmallow, honey…. when i open a bag of beans at starbucks the first thing i think of is sewage. it smells like charcoal.
SowMindful20 points8m ago
And the extra lack of nitrogen across our whole coffee line.
satisfiedjelly1 points8m ago
It’s both tbh
imathrowayslc [OP]8 points8m ago
I wish too, but it’s not just an issue of the profit. There simply isn’t workers who can be trained to use them and to do a good job. My store has 3 partners that’s we can’t really put on bar (because they can’t handle it) as it is if we had manuals we might have 3 qualified baristas.
Granted pay would help some with that but the labor shortage is real.
malletgirl918 points8m ago
But you could be the best barista in the world and the espresso would still taste like garbage. Espresso shots dying isn’t a real thing with even decent espresso. The flavor does transform, but with good espresso, it still tastes good. With sbux it goes from meh to BLECH.
EliMinivan3 points8m ago
There isn't a difference really, only one has water on top and the other espresso on top. Mainly visual, might change the amount of crema you taste for the first couple sips.
Bhaisaab8674 points8m ago
Espresso machines (and as a result, the espresso quality) at Starbucks get worse with each new generation.
Pulling single or triple shots, while convenient, is what causes the machines to become so terribly un-calibrated. If we pulled shots only in doubles, it’d fix a lot of the issues we face everyday with shot quality and machines malfunctioning. But unfortunately they gave us a machine that only pours one stream of espresso.

What I learned that a long back is usually stronger and has less water.... and an americono has lots of water (During World War II, American soldiers stationed in Italy felt the traditional Italian espresso was too strong for their taste and opted for a watered-down version. They wanted a drink that tasted similar to the drip coffee they had back in America, thus, the Americano)
The long black should crema on top
It's probably better when you use the spoon to pour shots on the water (similar to a undertow) our glasses aren't made for that so it will be more like a americono (americono and long back are very similar)
AndrewFan04083 points8m ago
I thought the long black is water then coffee while Americano is coffee then water. So in long black the coffee is on top with all crema thing, and people will taste more coffee taste.
aee781 points8m ago
This was my understanding.
Hazel_is_Trans1 points8m ago
Correct (not good at explaining things)
LxShadowKnight9 points8m ago
320X partner here. Just wandering what this means, I’m so confused and genuinely want to understand. I’m not sure what a long black is or why are they comparing it to an americano made in shot glass?
tired-barista2 points8m ago
americano is coffee then water, and a long black is water then espresso (in bux terms it would essentially be an upside down americano). you won't see much difference in a glass so small, and a long black is rarely ordered at any bux so you'll be fine
LxShadowKnight1 points8m ago
Thanks! I was so lost 😆
tired-barista1 points8m ago
gotchu lol
yayannapav2 points8m ago
Is it just me or do those shots look really watered down. Might just be lighting/angle
Beneficial-Weird-8172 points8m ago
It's an Americano and long black (upside down americano) in shot glasses... so yeah they're literally watered down 😂
