customer comes in, orders 2 trenta PCCB. There’s a rush of drinks, I make both, hand them out. As I’m making the next drink customer says “I asked for light foam” with a nasty attitude. I tell customer, “sorry, I can remake that for you!” I remake, hand out, take the first 2 drinks back. Customer then says “can I keep those too?” I look customer straight in the eyes & say “no you can’t” as I’m dumping them out into the sink.

Honestly I usually just let people keep mistake drinks because I hate wasting stuff but this customer had such a stank attitude that I really did not care.

You were completely correct.

Personally, I always reply to that question with a smile and say, "No, I'm sorry. Starbucks has very high standards for our drinks, so I have to get rid of the mistakes."

NTA. With it coming up in holiday season, I’m really wary of stank attitudes, sometimes people will do this sort of thing on purpose to get extra drinks. I hate assuming the worst and will definitely vibe check but if you’re rude, definitely no extras for you.

NTA. They paid for two drinks so two drinks is what they get! Now if you are super nice about it then yeah maybe I’ll consider giving you something for free. Don’t give these entitled customers free stuff that further encourages them to continue that rude behavior in the future.

Suddenly the drink is good and it’s fine that it’s not light foam and they want to keep it! It’s such B.S. like they get so angry with the drink and then want to keep it … if it’s so unacceptable why do you want it still

NTA, personally i only let customers keep mistake drinks if it was my mistake, like i made a hot drink instead of iced, obviously my fault. if they’re snarky about it and want to add a last minute change after the drinks been made, i don’t let them keep the one that they gave back.

At my store, we pretty much ALWAYS let the customers keep the mistake drinks, even if it was their fault it was made wrong.

But then again, the majority of our customers are also very nice and apologetic about it, even when WE made the mistake.

So, no. You were SO not the asshole.

if people ask if they can keep the drink I always say no. They “know this hack” and want more drinks for free. If I mess up and if the customer is nice about asking for a remake, I’ll ask “do you have anyone you can take the mess up to? Otherwise I just have to dump it” bc like they deserve a little treat for being nice

Yes. And that’s exactly what you SHOULD do. If it wasn’t good enough for them the first time then it’s not good enough now. And I’ll tell them too “I thought you said it wasn’t good.” And I won’t hand out the new one until they give me the old one back.

I put them aside to give to another customer as long as they were in my line of sight and nobody sipped them. Rude people don’t get their mess ups, that’s for the nice person behind them to get for free.

NTA. If they ask to keep the mistakes I generally didn’t believe they were mistakes but the person wanted freebies.

Although now that I’ve been graduated to customer I could never imagine asking for something to be corrected. I always assume I misordered or just don’t want to be a problem

Sometimes I let them keep it but It depends for me, if it’s to specific or if they have a stank attitude I throw it out but if it’s just normal with no notifications I give it away to a nice person ☺️

Did that with a trenta pink drink light ice one time. It was in drive thru too. The family was even looking at the mom like just keep the drink you have instead of asking for a new one. Took the perfectly good one back gave her the new one and made sure they watched me pour it down the drain.

NTA other people have said it too but I agree with if it’s my mistake I’ll give it to them, but light vs reg foam is nothing warranting then getting both drinks. Good on you wonderful partner 👏🏻👏🏻

I always say: let me see the sticker, than take the drink, dump it, tear the sticker and put it on the new cup, the toss the old cup.
