“Family issues” is not a proper reason to call out in almost any job. I philosophically agree with you but I don’t make the rules. Let me know if you find an entry level service industry job that allows this

It’s not normal to just call out Willy nilly so soon after being hired. And that’s all jobs. it means you’re now unreliable in their eyes. Are you sure you’re ready for a job? You kind of have to kiss ass and be their biyatch for a while when you’re first starting. Texting and not giving two weeks at all? I think that answers the question.

Unless it’s like, you have to care for someone due to a medical emergency or something, but if it’s like, “yeah my mom asked me to baby sit my siblings today” it sounds like your not really down to ride in exchange for money and benefits

I don’t know, do you have a car? I think something like doordash would be better for you right now.

? This comment doesn't make sense. Life happens, and our jobs don't need to control our lives. I personally love working at Starbucks but it's ok if it doesn't work out for OP. That doesn't mean they're not ready for a job 😂

I mean, simply “not feeling it” and wanting to give zero notice with a text?

OK, that's fair. I guess they could go about it a different way, I think a two week notice is appropriate.

Usually it’d be appropriate to put in your two weeks and if you don’t want to work those shifts you can always put them up for grabs for other people in your store or area to take. I know from first hand experience that it sucks when someone leaves without asking around for coverage or doing those shifts, but I also completely understand why you’d leave and not wanna do the shifts. I hope you have best of luck finding a different job that has a better work environment :) Sorry your manager doesn’t understand :(
