Starbucks rebranding the Starbucks Doubleshot on Ice was such a bad move.(self.starbucksbaristas)

Like I understand it makes them a lot more money and definitely popularized the drink, but having to pay for milk alternatives, getting half pumps for some reason, and removing the extra shot from the venti has driven me nuts. Especially the half pump thing like who decided that. 80% of the partners at my store shifts included just use full pumps and then when I make the drinks the customers say it’s not sweet enough. I’m losing it over here 🤭

To me Starbucks just never should have even introduced the half pump at ALL. It’s dumb and makes everything confusing for everyone.
lilminch22 points8m ago
this is what I think. abolish the half pump!!
Few_Conclusion_8824 [OP]14 points8m ago
Yea half pumps are my reason for hatred actually everything else I mentioned is lashing out
interyx50 points8m ago
I was so. damned. tired. of asking people if they wanted two shots in a cup or a Starbucks Doubleshot on Ice every time they asked for a double shot. They have no idea what you're talking about either! Half the time I would get a blank stare, which is what happens when your drinks are named confusingly.
I am so glad they changed it.

Is that the drink that was changed to the shaken espresso? Sorry I’m a “newer” partner and have only been with the company since after it was changed and was curious
snowflakenecklace53 points8m ago
yes! it used to be known as the double shot on ice, but they changed it to shaken espresso right around the time oat milk came in, i believe? personally i think the name change is WAY better, because that’s actually what it is. but all the other changes. (especially due to poor training and communication) were a mistake.
Remarkable_Hold_234210 points8m ago
Thank you! And honestly I hate when every single one of us are on different pages of how to do things, corporate really needs to figure the poor communication/training thing out
BananaGrams321 points8m ago
Then the customers complain there’s not enough milk after the foam settles
moldygiraffes13 points8m ago
I usually try to pour milk until the top of the cup and let the foam rise up, then slide the foam off the top with the lid into the sink for this reason.

I love them tbh. Don’t get much customer pushback where I’m at and the recipe to me is more straight forward than the double shot on ice. Also I think it helps that I genuinely really love drinking our shaken espressos but idk

Yeah I’m gonna have to agree with others on the fact that at the very least the name change was an improvement. Clarifying whether they just wanted shots or the actual drink and them blankly staring at you was sooo annoying. I do see the issue with people who I work with having issues with the half pumps and also I think it is kind of lame they took away a shot. But the name change was one of the few things corporate did right.

So in the app , are the pumps chosen for shaken esp half pumps ? If we modify a grande to have 6p brown sugar is that actually 3 or is it 6 full?
Few_Conclusion_8824 [OP]6 points8m ago
Supposed to be actually 3 I think the brown sugar pump should come with a half dose pump by default anyways since the only drink that’s gets it is the BSOSE it’s easier to double up on pumps for another drink like a cold brew or caramel macchiato.
Liberalmuffin2 points8m ago
correct. same with toasted vanilla and also caramel for sccf
testingaurora1 points8m ago
Sorry I'm not computing. So in the app , if you change the pumps from 3 to 4p its read by the barista as 4 half pumps
aeb013 points8m ago
as a barista i’m not actually sure about this. for brown sugar and toasted vanilla, they always come in half pumps regardless of the drink. for other syrups, i personally read it as half pumps because shaken espressos are supposed to get half pumps but i’ve heard conflicting opinions. it’s just a deficit in training/communicating standards i guess.
Few_Conclusion_8824 [OP]5 points8m ago
So the half pump and full pump are drink specific not usually syrup specific
testingaurora2 points8m ago
I see , so it's probably different depending on who gets the sticker since there's no clear standard. Thank you for answering !

I guess we’re the “other Starbucks” but we never charge for alt milks in a shaken espresso bc it’s less than 4 oz

No, most cold bar drinks are half pumps of syrup due to the ice in the cup. Hot drinks are just a cup full of liquid, so they get full pumps.
