what are ways you dress alternative at work? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cynicosm
and by alternative, this goes for anyone in any subculture who feels that term applies to them! like goth, emo, lolita, etc! i'm just curious on how yall work around the dresscode and health safety hazards!

i know some stores are just more likely to be lenient with things than others, but i'm still curious on hearing everyone's replies! :) i see some of the coolest looking people at other stores i visit, and i just can't help but wonder how yall dress so well in spite of the dresscode And constantly spilling coffee everywhere haha!

I wear black shirts, and only black shirts, and make sure my mood is dour every day because I’m a goth bitch(male). Also my underwear are always black but no one knows that at my store…

we all do now

You’re welcome. I’m your goth femboy coworker your parents didn’t know existed, so didn’t warn you about.

If only you existed in the worst days at my store, I might have more passion here.

I will visit your store in a skirt and thigh highs

I usually am able to incorporate a bit of my personal style through a pair of earrings or a necklace I love. But that’s pretty much it. Outside of work my style is pretty girly and can’t really wear clothes I love at work because dress code and all the messes that get on your clothes. Occasionally I’ll wear a simple dress with leggings because I love dresses. Also if I have time before work, I love to do a nice winged liner.

awesome, thank you for sharing! fun and/or cute earrings are usually how i try to show my personal style as well. i've worn some tops i really like to work before, and thankfully nothing that got on them was a permanent stain, but i can't imagine wearing something super valuable (whether it be valuable money-wise, or valuable personally) and getting a coffee stain on it that won't come out <//3 i'm masc presenting so i'm too nervous to wear any sort of makeup to work, but i have So much admiration for those who do put in that time!!

i've seen some people at other stores wear those fake tattoo sleeves, if you know what i'm talking about, while on bar...! they looked so cool but it absolutely blew me away. i couldnt fathom how someone could wear something so cool while making drinks lol

my store has a very strict clothing policy so i pretty much wear all black to every shift. i’m a uk based alt so i usually wear docs to spice up my uniform a bit but that’s really as far as i can go. I have blue hair too so if that helps ☺️

layers layers layers. sheer mesh long sleeve, tshirt on top, open button down over that. Sometimes it’s overalls and a sweater with the loudest boots I own. As much jewelry as I can get away with safely on top of that. My pants are all atypical at this point because I’ve painted or dyed or bleached them and it helps with the stains (more bleach can’t hurt!). My area requires hats, but braiding things into my hair or adding clips was fun. I just used what I had and kept it movable and relevant to my needs at work!

i might need to invest in a mesh long sleeve after this! i have some cool pants i think would be work appropriate, i just need to work up the courage at this point lol! i love how you braid things into your hair, that's so cool! thanks for sharing

I tend to go for all black and I have a studded belt that I wear everyday. Also a beanie with various pins on it

I usually just wear a black tshirt with black cargo pants and a belt. However some days I'm feeling spicy so if I have an article of clothing that's color and material is work appropriate but is the wrong cut (i.e. crop top, short skirt, off the shoulder top...) I'll put a tight fitting, black turtleneck underneath and long, black bike shorts or leggings. I also love wearing makeup so I do very big, graphic eyeliner with colorful eyeshadow if I have the time to apply it before work. I don't think makeup is mentioned in the lookbook so I've done some fairly alternative stuff like clown/mime makeup, goth/metal, and drawn on cat whiskers/cat nose.

turning something out of dress code into dress code appropriate through layering is SUCH a cool and creative idea!!!!!

i dress like a regular person. starbucks standards are stupid. if they want us to look nice, pay us enough to look nice.
cynicosm [OP] 2 points 8m ago
thats fair i just personally like looking nice, regardless of where i am, and wanted to know if others do too.. i promise that no one is making you dress alternative at work <//3 T\_\_T
