Does anyone know why this part is so sticky?? I work in a super slow licensed store with VERY limited hrs (so not used often) and we hand wash it every night. I have to pry the top of the blender off with a knife and even then I might need another person to pull while i pry. And cry. 🥲 (i.redd.it)

The sanitizer typically used in food service kinda breaks down certain materials and leaves a sticky residue. It's possible it's that?
uohk13 [OP] 31 points 8m ago
I only use sani water from the cloth to wipe the actual blender down but everything else is soap and water + air dry, including the top of the blender :(
iiiimagery 19 points 8m ago
People other than you are probably doing it though
uohk13 [OP] 2 points 8m ago
Our SM is insanely strict and we have like 3 partners so no, everyone is doing it properly lol
Levinem717 116 points 8m ago
It’s a special rubber that is supposed to be sticky in order to keep things tighter since nothing on the blender is in a fixed/locked position. It says hand wash only because the longer you maintain the stickiness, the longer the blender will hold together.
uohk13 [OP] 1 points 8m ago
I know it’s supposed to be sticky, but not super glue sticky. How many times have you needed a knife and 2 partners to take it off
Levinem717 2 points 8m ago
That means it’s not getting cleaned often enough.
5ilver3ch0 98 points 8m ago
make sure you’re wiping the blender itself down too!
uohk13 [OP] 15 points 8m ago
We do 🫠
frannyyyy_03 96 points 8m ago
i thought it was supposed to be sticky? to make sure the blender stays on
uohk13 [OP] 27 points 8m ago
I used to work in corporate for 3 yrs and have never had a sticky one, but even if it’s supposed to be I can’t imagine it’s to the point of needing 2 ppl and a knife to pry it off 😭
mommymary 31 points 8m ago
we just got a new one after a year of working there, the others were never sticky but the new one is soooooo hard to get off. I imagine it is intentional
agntr3d 6 points 8m ago
it’s just a new blender, our old blenders weren’t sticky, but the new ones are extremely. im assuming after a year or two it’ll go away but i’m not sure
totallyNotEvie8589 2 points 8m ago
we do tend to dishwasher it in corporate, which would reduce the stickiness quite quickly
claretamazon 1 points 8m ago
It's supposed to be hand wash like it says or it breaks. Our old ones just fell apart because of it and the brand new ones are starting to since they won't just rinse it off.
BiochemistChef 56 points 8m ago
Don't put it back on unless it's completely dry. That'll help with that a lot, assuming everything is clean
uohk13 [OP] 9 points 8m ago
I tried that yesterday no dice
Tabbystripes102 7 points 8m ago
We let ours dry completely overnight and it helps a ton, but if it's pretty new it'll stick for a while.
sapphicshortcake 25 points 8m ago
It's supposed to be sticky ? Lol
alynel1105 4 points 8m ago
Lol, right? Ours are definitely not sticky.
suneimi 9 points 8m ago
The Vitamix Isolation Gasket for Quiet One has magnetic materials mixed in with the rubber (which is itself tacky) - this is also why the hood can sometimes be a little tricky to pull off - it’s also magnetic (if you open it up and then pull the hood towards you while holding down the edge closest to you, it should be a little easier to release). Try gently bringing the hood to the gasket and you’ll feel some of that magnetic pull (at least, if the gasket has been well-maintained). This is why you only hand-wash it, too.

[I salvaged one that was getting thrown out and just had to replace a few parts - learned a lil bit about them…]

croissantboyy 5 points 8m ago
okay i swore it was magnetic but didn't have a definitive answer. lmao ty for the confirmation that i'm not crazy lol
uohk13 [OP] 3 points 8m ago
Ty for actually being helpful and not telling me to use soap or run it through hobart lol. I’ll try opening it like that
budsandrainbowsss 2 points 8m ago
Came here to say this! It’s magnetic! Lol
lewabwee 8 points 8m ago
They sometimes come super sticky. I don’t know what it is. Washing them usually helps but sometimes they just stay sticky.
yyz_barista 7 points 8m ago
Mine was always "tacky" and sometimes it needed to be peeled up from the blender, but never required a knife or anything. Just grabbed the corner, and peeled it up with some force.

Maybe just order a replacement blender gasket, probably the easiest.
katierileyk 7 points 8m ago
WAIT!!! ur syrup set up is so beautiful !!! 😭
HypnoticPeaches 5 points 8m ago
I thought the same thing, then I realized they’re a licensed store (so no drive thru) and I’m envisioning myself during morning DT peak pulling out every bottle until I found the one I’m looking for. I’ve gone and triggered myself lmao
uohk13 [OP] 3 points 8m ago
Its actually more convenient than running to the back 🤣 we always have access to each one, don’t need to pull any out :)
HypnoticPeaches 3 points 8m ago
I more so meant not being able to tell from the tops of them which flavor is which 😅 I agree with the convenience of backups on the floor, we do that too, just on a counter standing so we can see labels.

Edit: I just noticed the labels on the caps. Ignore me. I still think it would be a pain in a rush though
ad9581 3 points 8m ago
Let it air dry before you put it on. Thats very annoying. Also if it happens again the weak spot in the back in the middle of the rubber and the blender, just be careful not to use too much for or you'll punch your chin 😐
uohk13 [OP] 2 points 8m ago
LOL ok I’ll try thank you 🤣
hdmp3converter 3 points 8m ago
i think they get sticky from being run through the hobart they get partially melted on the outside surfaces from the hot water
uohk13 [OP] 2 points 8m ago
We’ve never done that
KableKyle 2 points 8m ago
It’s intentional. I opened a brand new blender and that part was hella sticky.
xxbleeding_outxx 2 points 8m ago
ours used to be like that, i have no idea why but its SOOO ANNOYING
notdomonique 2 points 8m ago
I think it’s supposed to be KINDA sticky but not “I had to pry it off” sticky. They come sticky out of the package usually
croissantboyy 2 points 8m ago
it's supposed to be "sticky" so to speak

i also have a suspicion that they're magnetized somehow? could be wrong but when putting them onto the blender it seems like they're attracted to the machine in a magnet kinda way.
Gameb0i6 3 points 8m ago
They are magnetised. If you put something metal on the blender base where the stuff sits on you’ll notice it s magnetised.
croissantboyy 2 points 8m ago
see, i thought so but i wasn't definitively sure lol. had no sources. but another person commented about how they're definitely magnetized too
Gameb0i6 2 points 8m ago
They’re a bit too magnetised tbh. That shit just don’t wanna come off at times.
Sorensuke 2 points 8m ago
It is supposed to be sticky, it acts as connector for the shroud to the base as well as a sound and vibration absorber from the blender itself.

If you try putting the blender on the base without the rubber separator i believe the shroud gets stuck to the base. Been a while since i tested the last bit but thats what i remember at least.
nightshiftequalsdead 2 points 8m ago
Because it’s new it’s gonna be sticky just run it through the Hobart like twice and you should be fine
gabby24681 2 points 8m ago
I think that’s the natural stickiness of the material. It’s sticky becauuuuse it’s not dirty.
Assiqtaq 2 points 8m ago
Its fine, yes. Don't pry so hard, just pull up a corner and work from there, let it come up at it's own pace. It is supposed to be very secure so the blender shroud doesn't move or come off. Not that it would necessarily, it is heavy and I think magnetized, but it is for assurances. So basically, peel a corner and just pull steadily like you would a sticker or a bandage.
uohk13 [OP] 2 points 8m ago
You’ll have to take my word for it when I say simple measures do not work on this lol it ofc want my first instinct to pull out a knife and pry it off
Assiqtaq 2 points 8m ago
LOL it isn't the start I was actually referencing. Not that I'd recommend a knife anyway, but it was the prying afterwards. If you hold a corner and just pull it'll come off. Don't blame you if you don't want to wait that long though, honestly. I think you could argue your SM to get a new one to replace that one and see if you have a better experience, just due to the fact that it is torn in the corner, but I don't know your manager so idk. You could try though.

I suggest soap
RubySapphireSage 1 points 8m ago
Mines is sticky from milk and syrup
noctellian 1 points 8m ago
I would clean it with bleach, but I don’t really think I was supposed to do that.
merimackie 1 points 8m ago
I just replaced mine yesterday (Tarbucks) and was sticky right out of the package I think it’s holding it in place there’s some weird magnetic thing goin on there too
johnmarkowens 1 points 8m ago
Cuz it’s coated in bacterial slime and you need to boil it or mike it. That kinda slime likes soap and water. Like throwing water or ice at a a blue slime
surg3v1 1 points 8m ago
Weird question but is it only that piece that’s hand wash or the entirety of the blender including shroud, the other rubber piece, and that one?
uohk13 [OP] 2 points 8m ago
Yup all 3
surg3v1 1 points 8m ago
Okay, good. I’m the lead at a Tarbucks but had to close last night and second guessed that for a moment. (I wound up hand washing all three.)
ehart0102 1 points 8m ago
You probably have at least one blender pitcher that is leaking through the bottom where the coupler is screwed in. Either broken or just loose.
sillybumbleb 1 points 8m ago
i used to work at a barnes & noble starbucks and that part of our blenders was always sticky. now i do work at an actual starbucks, and out of the 2 stores i’ve worked at neither blender pieces are sticky. i think the only thing that sorta helped was actually putting them in the Hobart (i know it says “handwash only”) but my barnes & noble cafe wasn’t as strict and we did still handwash them, but then we would put it in the Hobart just in case
KurtzKOButtz 1 points 8m ago
Mine’s never been soooooo sticky, but there’s a lot of sugar and milk going around behind a sbux counter so I’d guess that’s the reason
thechamelioncircuit 1 points 8m ago
When ours gets sticky I soak it in blue sani for a while and then scrub it and throw it in Hobart.
Alien_Exploration 6 points 8m ago
It says hand wash only right there. Why would you put it in the Hobart?
thechamelioncircuit -1 points 8m ago
Trust me; hand wash only is mostly for show as long as you aren’t washing it constantly. I’ve been a partner for nearly three years and have never seen a damaged gasket because of Hobart.
croissantboyy 3 points 8m ago
they absolutely should not be put in the hobart or soaked like that. They're made to be sticky so the blender shroud doesn't move. if it's sticky because of syrup or residue then all you need to do is hand wash it as normal.

edited to add the last sentence
sweatshirtsweatpants 0 points 8m ago
It’s sticky from the beverage ingredients.
Honest_Carpet_1809 0 points 8m ago
Lolz what? It’s sticky because it’s usually only cleaned once a day and it is surrounded by sticky sugary syrup? Syrup gets everywhere including on and around this piece. I’m so confused at the confusion on this post
uohk13 [OP] 2 points 8m ago
First off, I told you my store is dead dead. Barely use it throughout the day. Second, it will require knife prying after we clean, dry, leave it for the night, and come back in the morning to take it off. Hope that clears your confusion!
Honest_Carpet_1809 1 points 8m ago
But we (and when I say we I mean your store too- I’ve worked at over 15 different locations and we don’t take that off for any reason in the mornings so why would y’all?) don’t take it off in the morning so why would I assume you meant the morning? And no, I’m still thoroughly confused. Just use blue spray instead of using a knife improperly to pry it. That’s dangerous and against the standard. No need to remove it in the morning.
uohk13 [OP] 1 points 8m ago
To test if it is still sticking… lol. I obviously need to rule out daily use as a factor, I just want to be able to take this thing off without extreme measures. So whether I’m taking it off at night to clean or in the morning to test it, it is STILL sticking like crazy so that is where the confusion lies. Does that clear it up lol…
Main_Rip1351 -53 points 8m ago
Wtf just throw it away Lmfao it is not important and will not change the function of the blender shroud whatsoever. We always throw ours away 🤪 it’s just a useless extra piece to clean and for what lol

I mean, it says hand wash only right there with big friendly letters.
claretamazon 8 points 8m ago
Be careful with Hobart, it caused our last gaskets to break apart. Rubber plus high heat is not a good thing.
