does your manager do this ??? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by biscuittoaster
So, my stores manager has since quit and we got a new temporary manager watching our store. She's better then who we had before, but she runs things completely differently and recently started doing something new that I'm curious if other manager do.?

Before she came around, only shifts, ASM, or SM were the people that would put away our deliveries. They were the only people who were shown and taught to do it. But the new manager is scheduling regular baristas to put away the delivery in the morning. And it's random days too, it isn't consistent.

Basically, are baristas the ones who put away the delivery or is it supposed to be shifts that do it?

Personally I dont THINK (key word) that baristas should do it. Or at least, they/we should get trained and shown how to do it instea of just throwing them/us into it! Our order recently got messed up big time, (we won't have oat or soy milk for the next few days) which is why I say that.

Edit: my opinion has since changed, I thought that the person that put it away was expected to place the next order. Thank you to everyone who's put it into proper perspective for me!

It doesn’t really matter. If you can lift the boxes and FIFO you can put the delivery away.

Placing the order is up to the SSV/ASM/SM to do. Putting away the delivery can be done by anyone.
Whoever placed your order either forgot to order it or just didn’t pay attention to your milk pars. It has nothing to do with putting the delivery away.

Management can print you out a copy of the receipt so you can check it off as you put it away to insure that the order is accurate.

Ah, there was a shift who was complaining about the order getting screwed up and blaming it on the order, so I assumed they had to be done by the same person. Thank you though! I appreciate the knowledge being spread throughout my braincells. Storing it away in miniscule filing cabinets :))

Baristas put away the order at my store as well. It has a fringe benefit of familiarizing people with where stuff is located imo

That also makes sense!! More knowledge for my braincells to store away. Now I feel like my old manager normalized it and we all grew used to just the shifts doing it. Strange how so many stores are so different!

I’ve worked at a few stores, and at all of them a barista puts the order away.

Realistically, it makes more sense. It takes 1-2hrs to put the order away, depending on store size, which is a long time for no shift to be on the floor / not aware of what’s going on. It just makes everything run smoother IMO.

Why does a barista need to be trained on how to put the order away? They should already know where to find product by at least a month out of new hire training.

Really does not matter. Openers put away deliveries every morning at my store.

From the beginning (for me) baristas we’re always the ones to put orders away. As a SSV I usually do it if someone wasn’t assigned. I usually only have someone assigned to do it when the big orders come. But I also got trained on how to do it. Like I started by shadowing another barista and only the ones who are on top of their game pretty much get to do it. Obviously not green beans.

My store has always had anyone do it that wants to. If you were to politely ask not to do it though, they should respect that. I would definitely explain to your substitute sm that baristas at your store have never done it, so they might need a quick training but other than that, it's completely normal :)

i’m always scheduled monday mornings to put away the order (mondays are when we get our huge order for the week) and i’m a barista. i always thought that was normal and i actually love putting away the order

Only shifts ever put away orders at my store, but if there’s a lot and there’s time, we help. The shift usually does it while we run the floor so it makes sense.
