Am I allowed to have my nails done (acrylic or otherwise) as long as I wear gloves as well?(self.starbucksbaristas)

I honestly just think it would be nice to get my nails done as a little treat. I haven’t done it since senior prom about a year and a half ago) but I’d rather not pay $40 to have them for one day, then have to take them off for Starbucks! I’ve seen other coworkers of mine have acrylic nails and wear gloves which I think is fine, but I’ve also heard other baristas complain that they shouldn’t have the nails at all so I’m unsure

Even gloves can be unsanitary and working at starbucks, you probably wouldn’t have a lot of time to wash your hands and switch gloves here and there every time.

A coworker came in with acrylic nails and I was dto and got burned because she couldn't put the lids on right. I did not say anything because she's a minor and I think she had a dance or something but she was on drive bar and I had 8 hot drinks come through without the lids on all the way. 🥹

Oh my god honestly I didn’t even think about if I’d be able to actually move my finger properly thats such a good point, I was just worried about food safety contact and all that!!! Thanks for bringing this up!!

Idk why people are so short any honestly kinda rude about this. Yes currently we are not allowed to. Personally, I disagree with this. Especially with acrylic nails (given that they aren’t too long) they do not chip lol. Yeah they fall off sometimes but anyone would notice a whole ass nail falling off plus it normally hurts like a bitch. Just annoying because my dad was in the neuro icu last year and literally his nurses had nails. That’s a much more critical job than Starbucks lol it just seems silly

Acrylic press ons are becoming really popular! A lot nail techs are adding custom press ons as a service. Even regular press ons have become way better in quality and they help quell my desire to have beautiful nails. One of my managers used to work as hairstylist and had been recently letting the femmes slide with gloves on, so after 3 YEARS I finally got an acrylic set for 4 days that I had off and on the 4th day cut them down and got a clear pink coat to go to work the next day. Worst. Idea. Ever. I banged then on metro shelves, the counters, etc and they popped off painfully throughout the week. I felt bad already for skirting health safety and I found it a suitable punishment 😔

Honestly if u do it that infrequently, as long as ur managers are chill my guess is they’ll just be like “so we’re not actually allowed to have our nails done, you can wear gloves for now but remember for next time”

I personally don’t get my nails done but I have for events a few times and I literally do not care I wear them to work and nobody says anything lmao
