Question guys, any of you with the new policy on availability does your store still work around your hours and such? Just because I do plan to work two jobs but my job pays a little more so was planning on picking up some more hours there but at the same I love Starbucks I love making drinks even if it gets crazy. But my SM said I can’t do less than 12 hours since I only plan to work a day or two said the only option was too resigned. Just want to hear your guys stories. And before some of you guys start and want to act like a chad and say I’m being unreasonable and that i shouldn’t be working at Starbucks in the first place well already been in the company for a year and have closed in my store with just an SSV and myself cause of many call outs and literally did all closing tasks dishes prep you name it those are the people that are unreasonable not to mention in a little while would start school and have a bit of bills to handle just throwing it out there but appreciate your guys input.

It’s gonna be impossible to work around the new availability policy. I’ve been told it works like the benefits policy where they do an audit at a couple of points during the year. If you don’t meet the minimum hours required during those audit periods then you’ll be terminated.

It’s quarterly btw. The same as the benefits audit

Nah It’s not impossible. I have a mother job in my career field that’s 55 hrs a week and I still get my 12 hrs in

I meant working less than 12 hours a week will be impossible

Has Starbucks come out with a memo regarding these quarterly audits on worked hours? Because my DM hasn’t heard anything so far :/

not 100% sure what you mean by “work around your hours” but my SM schedules with both the 12 hour minimum and individual availability in mind; we have several high school students (minors) with very limited availability who manage to make it work - some of them do 3-4 hour closing shifts during the week, but at least one only works weekends (6+ hour shifts).

Well first was thinking of doing just one day a week at a 4 hour shift but with the new policy that I’ve heard definitely my manager told me it was not doable. But I appreciate the insight definitely learn as long as I’m able to do the minimum of 12 hours than I don’t have to resign. But yes I will be doing 6+ hours shift one day of each week to meet the 12 hour requirement is that possible do you think ?

i work another job, a stockroom associate at a shoe store. i am an opener at starbucks now, i have one day off a week (from both jobs). my other store is open 11-8 or 9 most days, so i have it set for 4:30-9:30 weekdays and 5-12 saturday and sunday, and 10-9/1-10 at my other job. starbucks still schedules me 26-31 hours a week, i get around 15 at my other job.
it’s possible, but it’s not always easy! if your store needs openers though it’s not a bad idea. a lot of our employees are minors who can’t work during the day because of school, and a lot of people also don’t wanna wake up that early. i feel like opening is the easiest shift, and peak can be really fun when you have decent staff…the only difficult part for me is going to sleep/waking up early enough. but you get used to it. it gives me more time in my day for work (or errands if i happen to be off from my other job), while still getting enough hours at starbs
if you’re able to expand a little and work like 3 shifts a week, it might work

Well as I’m seeing the real matter and requirement is the 12 hour margin right? So if I’m able maybe to work about a shift that’s let say 7 hour shift one shift a week so that makes about 14 hours. Would that be doable do you think ?
diphenhydranautical2 points8m ago
it has to be 12 hours a week, so you’d have to work two 7 hour shifts in a week for that to work. but i dunno it depends on your management and what your store needs. but i don’t know if they’d be willing keep you if youre only willing to work two days a week

Ahhh I appreciate was grasping it but not close enough lol. Thank you for correcting that. Well my manager told me no straight up but was just trying to understand better the new policy. I mean honestly I would go in full time no questions ask, but since I have a back problem and learning disabilities. Since we are understaffed and we always have peaks. All that extra labor does affect my back and I do tend to call off quite often. When that happens at the moment I just do short shifts, and my learning disabilities slow me down when I’m at bar. Took me a while to learn everything but little by little I’m getting a bit faster so it’s just a little stressful both mentally and physically. Plus just getting paid at a minimum my other job pays me a little more and definitely it’s not to strenuous but do want to work 2 jobs for a while but now that I know it’s 12 hours a week will see how I’ll divide the hours. Appreciate it again.
