Openers and Closers? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Secure-Rate3651
Hello people, I work for Starbucks UK and I always see US baristas talk about openers vs closers as if they are set shifts? Say you are a closer, does this mean you are always solely on closing shifts or you were just the closer that night? In the UK we all just do whatever shift is given to us - open, close, or mid.

We are scheduled the same as you, but generally people will primarily be scheduled during open, close or mids, usually because people have a set availability to only open or only close. Also, I have open availability but my ASM chooses to always schedule me to close because she likes to have someone consistently doing one area so that the quality of the closes is consistent

Canadian barista here, at our store we have people who’s availability is only evenings so they tend to only close and some who are only mornings or middays so they open. I am opener though despite open availability because it tends to be where I’m strongest.
