just write it in the book that you were there at five and let your SM know. they generally allow you to get that hour still since it wasn’t your fault

They don’t get to “allow” anything. You are entitled to the wages your were scheduled. Its not your fault the store didn’t open at sooner”; absolutely write it in the book. :)

once my store had to close unexpectedly so they paid us for half our shifts since we showed up, but didn’t have to work

I thought standard was to pay out the entire shift at full pay rate? Had a closing shift where closing supervisor had to call out so I got 5.5 hours paid at my normal hourly rate since nobody could cover and the store had to close early.

that's standard? every time closing shift calls out i get stuck with two hours of pay lol
Big_Iron99 1 points 8m ago
I thought it was, since that’s what my store has been doing. If it isn’t standard I should probably shut up about it

could also depend on your state's laws? i'm from nh that may change things versus if you're in california or something?

Write in the book. It wasn’t your fault so you’ll still get paid.

last time my ssv was late to an opening shift, the other 2 baristas and I just wrote in the book instead of clocking in that we were there on time since we had to wait in the cold for 30 mins. if our sm were to try and deny us, I think he knows we would have fought him lol

my store closed early and my sm thought we could get paid for the shift we were scheduled but asked the dm and she said no. hours not worked are not paid. idk what your dm would say though. but ask your sm/dm before writing it in the book.

edit: for those downvoting, care to explain? or just keep downvoting?

my store has closed early so often and every single time, I’ve never gotten paid and to be quite honest, I’m annoyed as all get out
Firefly1086 2 points 8m ago
Happened to us recently too. There was no shift available because ours was sick (and no one in the district could (would?) cover) and the baristas didn't get paid.

I am assuming they're just reacting to the answer you gave. Not you, but the outcome. Sounds like your DM sucks.

I believe in that situation you should have gotten paid for the hours not worked because it was out of your control. Had your store not closed early, you all would have been working the scheduled shift. What did it close for if you don't mind me asking?
