What’s your hot take? Either about this sub or Starbucks in general.(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Tie-Academic
I’ll go first:
Some of y’all complain too much 😉
CheesiestSlice453 points8m ago
A lot of people in this sub would actually suck to work with.
caitlin_marie_gg198 points8m ago
like most of the problems y’all complain about would be fixed if you actually communicated with your sm/ssvs/coworkers
kourtesan42 points8m ago
what do you do when you communicate and nothings gets better? Or you get made fun of by management for complaining and get told that same bs “just communicate better” by coworkers.
friendlySkeletor31 points8m ago
In my defense my SM is garbage at communication
iiiimagery4 points8m ago

Amen 💀
caspi3318 points8m ago
I love making complicated drinks and I’m sure most people would if Starbucks and (some) customers cared about beverage quality over how fast we can sling drinks out the window at people
PetMySquid290 points8m ago
A soy mocha latte is a 3 bean soup
murfvegannaise130 points8m ago
So is a soy vanilla latte
DragonTear03244 points8m ago
most of yall couldn't make an iced chai with brown sugar syrup correctly
Cheedanish46 points8m ago
This being every other barista’s drink too. Ohhhh the irony
BatWeary29 points8m ago
right 😭 imo it’s already perfect with the six half pumps
Cheedanish34 points8m ago
You don’t need a whole bunch of brown sugar! The beauty of it is that it’s barely there!!
BatWeary23 points8m ago
exactly! it adds just the perfect amount of sweetness. if i did six full pumps i probably wouldn’t be able to drink it tbh
elizabeth_horn32 points8m ago
MY PET PEVE. THANK YOU
Torirock1016 points8m ago
question: the brown sugar shaken espresso still only gets half pumps right 🥴
Markedsoultheif7 points8m ago
Yes. It’s still half pumps
Torirock104 points8m ago
okay cuz i was thinking my life was falling apart
Calsan19 points8m ago
Yeah, the shaken espressos get half-pumps by standard, like frappuccinos. (Which is why while it's 2/3/4 pumps of the base, frap roast, and scoops of inclusions, it's 1/2/2 of mocha sauce or other non-half pump syrups)
But if you got a latte with those same syrups, you use full pumps. The pump size is standardized by the drink, not the syrup.
dankmobile15 points8m ago
enlighten us?
dazedinreverse82 points8m ago
The brown sugar syrup has a half pump on it by standard so you should be doubling the pumps when putting it in a drink that gets full pumps
BatWeary13 points8m ago
((question)) so if someone gets a latte with, say, 3 pumps would i do 6 half pumps still? i assume so but i know some want just the 3 half pumps
dazedinreverse22 points8m ago
Honestly they've probably gotten it made wrong from the start so they only know what the 3 half pumps taste like. Try making to standard and then remaking it if they say its too sweet and explain the standard to them so they can order it correctly next time as 1.5 pumps
irritablegarlic1 points8m ago
if they specify then I do the amount they want, so if they specifically want 3 pumps I do 3 half pumps. if it just says the syrup and no amount then double it.
rnaggie5313 points8m ago
Ohhhhh🫢🫡
Environmental-Air7811 points8m ago
This
BelligerentCoroner9 points8m ago
It would get double the pumps since the pump is half-sized for the BSOSE.
kourtesan7 points8m ago
We’re they given the time and training needed to make the drinks correctly and confidently?
Torirock102 points8m ago
question: the brown sugar shaken espresso still only gets half pumps right 🥴
Torirock10-2 points8m ago
question: the brown sugar shaken espresso still only gets half pumps right 🥴
dazedinreverse3 points8m ago
Yes, all shaken espressos get half pumps
captainchainsaw32183 points8m ago
When I’m at work I think of myself as a drug dealer since coffee is chemically a drug 😅
Tottapola42 points8m ago
it’s starbucks, it’s like an open drug market between employees already
photo_rain36 points8m ago
Sugar is a drug too hahaha so we are doubly so
Number1Barooista181 points8m ago
Sometimes I feel like I am the only barista in this sub that enjoys their job.
Ceramicusedbook41 points8m ago
I genuinely enjoy mine! I have a great team.
Number1Barooista13 points8m ago
So do I !
g_pvp_39 points8m ago
same here :)
Environmental-Air78137 points8m ago
I have my complaints, but I freaking love my job. There is a reason I’m coming up on my thirst year, I’m 20 minutes early every day, and I always stay late 😂
BatWeary26 points8m ago
part of the 20 minutes early club here too 🙋♀️ only bc i want to be able to chill and enjoy my drink before getting launched into the craziness
hollsberry15 points8m ago
I’m not allowed to complain at work so I get it out on the internet
darkwolf5233 points8m ago
Job is ok,meh. It’s whatever for me
butterflymomo136 points8m ago
starbucks has made coffee WAY too complicated. complicated for us, complicated for the customers, etc etc. i can't blame any customer for not knowing what they're ordering because if you don't work here, there's no way you could fully understand the menu. WE don't even fully understand the menu. there's too many different standards for too many different things, too many items on the menu, it's just. too. much. i frequent a lot of my local coffee shops and haven't seen any kind of "3 pumps of x 4 pumps of x 2 scoops of x blended with two drizzles and cold foam" or customer freakouts on those baristas so why does it fall on us?? we're not a cafe anymore, we're fast food and that's why we get treated the way we do. working at starbucks isn't respectable through our customers eyes BECAUSE we're fast food
pastelldillann129 points8m ago
some of y’all about to be real mad at me but it must be said. some of you take this shit way too seriously. it’s *starbucks*. stop drinking the corporate kool-aid. look at the direction it’s taking the company.
fruit_enjoyer42 points8m ago
Facts asf, the way people talk on here, im like yall value the technical company standards and regulations over being a good person
[deleted]-8 points8m ago

SamusCroft44 points8m ago
Wym you’re mad people write down you’re late when you’re late? Lmfao it’s your job show up on time.
You think it’s petty but being there on time is literall the bare minimum. It inconveniences other people who need to leave on time or people who have to pick up the slack when some ass shows up a few minutes late every shift. This isn’t even a company policy koolaid thing it’s just you not being courteous to your coworkers.
lilmissambersue19 points8m ago
Thank you.... Like it's just coffee....
Have_Donut117 points8m ago
Some of the people here would be awful to work and I would side with management in most of their cases. My favorites are the “My manager is targeting me because I am late every day”. No, you manager is probably the only person in your life trying to hold you accountable so you can have some income.
Also, a lot of you let problems persist at your stores by not mentioning them to your SSV, SM, DM, or HR.
Asleep-Fee-961816 points8m ago
IKR! Jeez the entitlement of some of these people. Like you get paid more than minimum wage for this job.
yuribuny86 points8m ago
shots don’t die it’s a huge myth that starbucks created to make partners work faster
Big_Pension_179 points8m ago
Starbucks standards are overly complicated and that’s why it’s so hard to train people. Too many exceptions to the rules.
MakeLulzNotWar76 points8m ago
There has absolutely been a corporate push to spread anti-union sentiments on this subreddit and /r/starbucks in the past few months.
witcheselementality68 points8m ago
That's really about it. It's just people complaining too much. Or talking bad about customers too much.
"Wow can you believe??!" This woman! Asked if she could get her cold brew hot??? What an idiot. So I said to her "Are you dumb? Cold brew is cold lmao" 🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣
You work in customer service. You have to work with customers. Not everyone knows everything about starbucks. Or even about coffee. You have to help people. That's part of what this job actually is. Helping people understand what to order. Because starbucks has a giant menu. And too many options. You have to have some kind of empathy and realize that no. Not everyone knows what they're ordering. And you can't shit on them for it. You have to help them.
moldyhotpocket26 points8m ago
oh my god exactly! i entered this job with no prior knowledge to starbucks so i feel for costumers who have no idea what they’re ordering. making fun of what they get or belittling them is the reason why everyone hates starbucks baristas. im glad i dont work with the type of people that post on here.
taylortherod16 points8m ago
This is a sub for venting
amsypeach62 points8m ago
That digital menu boards are all well and good until it is nearly the end of a campaign and a syrup is out of stock but you can't take it off the board so we have to spend 2 weeks explaining to customers we've run out and it won't be back because we can't get anymore but that we can't change the board (after they've shouted at us that it's on the board).
RubySapphireSage58 points8m ago
Some of y’all are treating Starbucks as a burial ground , “my life only revolves around Starbucks” and it shows .
foomeitshitme55 points8m ago
Food service workers complaining is as American as Apple Pie. I enjoy this forum. I feel valued as a source of sagely advice (SM 54 m).
caitlin_marie_gg52 points8m ago
some of the drinks y’all complain about are easy to make and if the person paid for it, idc i’ll make it no matter how gross i think it is
Toomanyboringpeople43 points8m ago
Some people in this sub have legitimate complaints and others are whiny and entitled 😬
ConductorMeaty37 points8m ago
i think y'all too proud to be apart of starbucks. it's overall a pretty shitty company
kourtesan4 points8m ago
Agreed
nightimevil34 points8m ago
I hate it when questions are asked on this reddit or the barista one, and they're like, "How many times should we shake a refresher? My SM says X, but I think it's just until I feel like it." And it's like, WHY ARE YOU ASKING REDDIT???? You have resources at work! For work questions! Like the store resources!!
The question I gave as an example is a stupid fake one, but they're literally like that! If you just picked up an IPad while at work and looked at it, you could solve your own question instead of running to Reddit.
Have we forgotten that Reddit isn't just our country and different countries have different standards? Reddit is not the go to place.
easymachtdas34 points8m ago
Law enforcement is subjected to less abuse than y’all
nicolelynnejones32 points8m ago
My hot take is that I really like my job and don’t plan on leaving until I can make a living selling my art. I’ve worked at so many places and this is the only place where I haven’t wanted to cry before clocking in every day.
But corporate is so far removed. So much further than any other company I’ve ever seen. They don’t even know what the job is. Their idea of our jobs is a fantasy.
fredforthered23 points8m ago
No longer there, but I see way too many unnecessary questions about standards that are in the manual. I only trust 2 partners to make a cappuccino. I know all y’all are burning the f out that milk.
Outside manager hiring is a terrible and demoralizing thing. So many partners are passionate and willing to rise to the occasion and they get passed over because the company thinks they’ll save more money and implement better ideas than the people who know every regular’s order. I still remember them.
Schultz and corporate in general can sit on a pole.
All done.
lilmissambersue8 points8m ago
i have a dumb question, How would one burn the milk when making a cap? I started in February and I take pride in my abilities to make a good cappuccino. But, this is also my first coffee job so I am curious because I don't think anyone explained this to me.
FemboiTomboy3 points8m ago
i'd highly recommend James Hoffman's youtube video on how to steam milk. it goes over lots of stuff not in the training at starbucks:

sashavis20 points8m ago
People are downright mean about customer's orders sometimes. If a customer likes iced white mocha with forty pumps of extra drizzle (exaggeration), don't bully them for it. They're paying for the drink. You might not like it, or you might find it gross, but you don't need to say a person is disgusting for enjoying a drink!
kourtesan19 points8m ago
I think some locations are garbage and the people who work there are assholes, you can’t dictate someone’s situation or their feelings so sayings “y’all complain to much” with no background seems highly ludicrous. I myself had a horrible experience with management and spartannash but I can’t speak for the people who have never struggled in the Starbucks industry cause that wasn’t my experience.
Jewicer18 points8m ago
some people take their role way too seriously. a lot of workers are pretentious as hell because they think starbucks is above fast food. people get downvoted to hell for the smallest things ever. the owl cake pop pictures are annoying as hell. who cares about iced doppios. “the siren” is super cringe. people talking about how many calories or how much sugar is in a drink is super lame.
taylortherod13 points8m ago
ITT: bootlicking the siren
derrussian13 points8m ago
Hot take on this sub, some people are way too quick to downvote someone's statement about something. Whether it's an opinion or even someone who was trained improperly people will immediately go to downvote instead of replying and correcting the person. Some people can also be way too arrogant and believe they're always right which isn't always the case
yungfroggie13 points8m ago
some of the people take their job too seriously here like there was a thread about getting that annoying tiktok drink guy fired. for what? making nonsense? why do you care
tellovisions12 points8m ago
Some people take this job too seriously.
certifiedsnax11 points8m ago
honey citrus mint teas are not that bad to make. tedious, sure. but y’all act like it’s the end of the world when it comes to that drink
mariesnowelle6 points8m ago
yea they're actually really easy..actually most drinks are easy to make
Praxlyn11 points8m ago
Some of y’all complain for the smallest things & I genuinely wonder how some people act irl. Don’t work customer service I feel like that’s very simple.
insanitysgrip11 points8m ago
i’m in two minds about this sub.
i started in April and had a TERRIBLE manager? she didn’t even acknowledge me half the time and when she did, she was outright snotty. i just didn’t let it affect me bc i adore my coworkers, and eventually that manager got replaced with our current one. he’s been at SB for 28 years and is actually really great. sure he messes up the schedule sometimes but that’s fine!
i really honestly like my job. i’ve worked in coffee for a while now and the customers can get me down a LOT, but i’m really great friends with a lot of my coworkers and i enjoy coming to work. i just became a trainer and my manager and i are working on getting me up to SSV, it’s nice to have a team that actively encourages everyone.
sure, i have days that i want to just get in my car and cry. i’m tired of being scheduled to close every single shift because we don’t have enough closers.
but my therapy is paid for, my college is paid for, i’ve made some absolutely amazing friends, and i’m working on promoting to a shift. i wouldn’t do that if i didn’t like this place!
i think i’m quite lucky because i have a really wonderful set of coworkers, that can really make or break any job
lilmissambersue9 points8m ago
I would rather complain on the internet to strangers than to my family or coworker and drag them down. At least people know what we're talking about on here. That being said, there are days where I can't even be on this sub because I can't handle the negativity and it stresses me out before work hahaha.
My store is amazing and lovely, I read shit on here and I feel so lucky I have amazing coworkers and good manager. So, the complaining of others does make me feel better about my life lol
MatchingColors5 points8m ago
Strongly agree with your take
Here’s mine: working at Starbucks is not a difficult job whatsoever.
bailter_space6 points8m ago
I guess it depends on your work history but I personally agree. Worked in dining rooms and kitchens my whole life before Starbucks. It is through and through the easiest job I've ever had.
Urmomscoochiehairs3 points8m ago
I complain a lot but it’d help if we didn’t go through 5 store managers this year

I get you’re being facetious, but damn it gets my goat when ppl refer to adderall as meth. ADHD is stigmatized enough.
