Contracts? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Beneficial-Weird-817
In recently looking for a second job, a shift supervisor told me that we signed contracts when we were hired that we wouldn't work for another coffee shop while also working at starbucks.

I fully believe them, but I don't remember the specifics of the contract from when I originally signed it, and was wondering where I could find it to read the specific wording.

The shift originally said chain coffee shops were off the table, but local ones were ok, then changed it to no coffee shops in general. I'm interested in working as a barista at a restaurant that also has a coffee bar, so I'm not sure if that would get me in trouble.

I've looked through all of the emails I got from starbucks when I was first hired, such as the ones with the business conduct documents and mutual arbitration agreement, but if anyone knows where to find the contracts we signed I'd appreciate any help.

Side note: while having this conversation, another coworker mentioned that they were originally going to decorate and sell starbucks cups, before being told that was also against a contract they signed. Again, I believe it and it makes sense but I can't find the details. If I was gifted starbucks tumblers I don't use anymore while being employed here, can I sell them 6 months later through mercari or Facebook marketplace? I just want to look into the details lol.

Page 11 of Standard of Business Conducts, no conflict of interest, no coffee shops at all. I don't believe you signed anything specifically stating you can't work at other coffee shops, but when you took the job you agreed to follow all its policies, you signed the paperwork taking the job, and that's one of them. You can ask your manager since it's not an actual coffee shop, it's a restaurant that serves coffee, but you for sure can't work around it by finding proof you never signed anything. You'll be told to quit one job or the other, or be fired, and PCC won't have your back :/ Sorry. I'd really try talking to your manager! They may not care

Thanks for the answer! I definitely wasn't looking to prove that I didn't sign anything, it was more just to see the details on whether it was chain coffee shops, any coffee shops, or any places in general, which you answered in this. I wasn't set on working a second job at any specific place, so I'll just shift to different options if my manager isn't 100% sure about it.

Oh for sure!! I couldn't tell from the post so I threw it in to be clear just in case. I hope your manager is cool with it! That'd be so fun, good luck!

I can’t answer the first question- it’s been way too long. I don’t remember.

The side note- you’re not allowed to profit off of anything. You can’t resell anything for more than you paid for it.

So if it was a gift, it would be ok? Although I guess it wouldn't be possible to tell if something was gifted or not, so that could get messy.

It also raises questions about what my coworker was saying when it comes to decorating or customizing them, because then you're adding value by putting in time, skill and product.

I guess it doesn't seem black and white, but it's safer to just not test it. Thanks for the answer!

We didn’t sign any contract but we did sign the employee handbook when we were hired.
