overtime (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mangotangoafterdark
Today my SM asked me if I could work 4.5 hours tomorrow. I said yes and now i’m total scheduled 40 hours this week. However, we had our holiday setup and baristas were asked to come in to help but weren’t necessarily scheduled. I came in for an hour and a half to help before I had to go to class. So I will end up going into overtime this week. When my manager asked me to work tomorrow I said I can but I will go into overtime working any more than like 3 hours. She didn’t acknowelege what I said, just said, can you work this time to this time, which was 4.5 hours. Will I get in trouble for this?

You will not get into trouble for working overtime. Your manager would potentially get in trouble for *giving* you overtime, but they have access to your hours so it’s their call (and it might be approved by your DM already)

You’ll be fine. It’s one thing if you just walked in and decided to work overtime without approval. If your manager asked you to come in then that’s on them. They need to check your schedule before asking you to come in so much that it puts you on overtime. It sounds like they don’t care because you even told them that you’ll go into overtime and they didn’t say anything.
