Might be getting terminated (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by itsnnotdamiann
I’ve known for awhile that I don’t have the greatest immune system in the world, and allergy and flu season usually coincide for me. I’ve been at my location for a year and my SM knows me well enough to know that when I call out I’m actually sick, just last week I had to be admitted to the hospital because it had gotten to that point. I was able to recover enough that I went to work on holiday launch, but this morning ended up calling out because I was in pain again. My SM called me back after peak saying that I would be in danger of getting terminated if sedgwick decides to deny my leave, and that she wouldn’t be able to do anything if I did get fired. My only question is why is it policy to go on medical leave for unexpected medical issues, it’s not like I chose to get sick or that I’m not attempting to make a full return to work because clearly I am. I love this job and I would like to not lose the friends I’ve found in coworkers and regulars. It’s also the first job I’ve had that I’ve actually wanted to stay at work more. What do I do?

Unfortunately there is nothing you CAN do :( I'm not sure completely how starbucks works but most jobs have a certain amount of absence in a period of time you can have before being subject to termination. Even excused medical leave. It's an awful situation but your health comes first and if you get terminated or quit hopefully you get marked rehirable.
