I may not be an expert, but... (self.starbucksbaristas)

The fact that yesterday I heard almost every single closer and mid shift person say something along the lines of 'I hate it here,' 'I want to lay down and go into a coma,' 'I want to euthanize myself' 'I'm gonna cry, maybe kill myself' could possibly mean that the store is overwhelmed and needs some kind of help...just saying as an almost 3yr employee 👀

This used to be a few people, every so often. Now it is all day every day. That is not okay. Yes it is perfectly normal to hit your limits once in a while, and some people are at their limits just living their life. But the idea of never having enough help, enough time, enough money, enough of any resource, is just not healthy. Nor should it be considered "normal" to be that way or feel that way.

The holiday season in particular is tough for a lot of professions. Christmas used to be my favorite but now I’m a barista and my husband is a mail carrier. We’re both going to be so burned out by actual Christmas, our poor kids. Yay capitalism tho right?

Former partner (247xxxx), I knew as soon as they rolled out the free Lyra credits that they were about to make our lives hell. I quit about a year later. Worked precovid, then during the throws of it (which was FUCKING AWFUL), then during the limbo period when nobody could figure out the rules and everyone was either taking advantage of the chaos or being manipulated/worked to death with it. I learned how Starbs really is when they made us do the sensitivity training after that event in (I think) Philadelphia where they kicked the guy out for using the bathroom or whatever…they don’t actually care about people, they just don’t want bad publicity and want to capitalize on all of these issues.

do you mean to say the training was bs, or? just asking since i wasn't employed at that point in time

The training itself was great and necessary for a lot of folks but starbs only did it for damage control so as not to miss out on any sales/ possibly get more sales because of their humanitarian efforts.

This is happening at my store too. It shouldn’t be this way, we shouldn’t have to feel this way at freaking Starbucks.

I bite my tongue on saying those kinds of things almost every day. Something definitely needs to change.

This is how i feel as an almost year partner but at a different location, fucking sad

7 year partner and it is cyclical this is the ebbed and flow of the company and business strategy unfortunately especially since changing hands four times since my start with Schultz, Johnson, Schultz and now the latest CEO and a pandemic- not much has changed in relation to the stress pattern at the stores. All I can say is the largest determining factors of stress load this time of year is how affective your SM and dm are, whether your store is cafe only or DT and what ratio of your staff are newer hires at this point. Other than that, labor limits handed down by corporate with a goal of making higher ups and shareholders happy along with the increase in ways to order have really burdened stores to an exponential degree this holiday season.

Genuinely not trying to be rude, but seeing as I'm a 3 year partner, hopefully I'd know whether a crew is being whiny or is truly exhausted. I will admit that yes, not all the baristas at our store are the best, but yesterday was the third day of the holiday season. It was a nonstop line of everything, with a couple of new partners and many's first holiday, and our customers were so rude. My store is #1 in our district for otw times and customer connection, but damn we can only do so much when we don't have a planted CS for 3 hours and we're low on everything😭
