scheduled for training but not a barista trainer? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Is it normal to be scheduled for training shifts to train new baristas even though I'm not a barista trainer? I really dislike training others and DO NOT want to be a barista trainer 😭😭😭

No that’s not normal. You have to complete trainer training to become a barista trainer, and it’s something that you have to ask for… I’d speak with your SM to figure that out.

Definitely not. We get scheduled training for ourselves to work on new modules or practice holiday training, but unless you haven't done your modules in a super long time this shouldn't be more than an hour tops, and only one day.

Yes, it is normal to be scheduled for “training” and be a typical coverage shift.

Here’s why:

Each type of labor (coverage, training, non coverage, keyholder) is allowed a certain amount of hours a week.

So in order to not go over on the total amount of labor hours for the week but still have bodies on the floor, they have to be “coded” as training or non coverage.

Especially when we are in transition times, like into holidays, you’ll see that more often so that you can have those people on the floor.

The schedule builder schematic SUCKS and isn’t usually correct. I’m pretty sure it’s solely based off sales and doesn’t consider other things happening in the store, like getting the trucks in. Someone has to put those away…
So like it might say you only need 2 people for mid but your store manager (SM) knows you need at least 3 if it’s a truck day.

Definitely reach out to your SM if you have questions- they’re usually happy to answer!

** also, you have to go though special training to become a barista trainer, so if you don’t want to then you definitely don’t have to at all.
