To the customer that was upset that their tea wasn’t ready(because we had a million Mobile orders, and several call outs) and asked why we just didn’t hire more staff…. What a suggestion, why didn’t anyone else think of that🙄 (self.starbucksbaristas)

To the customer who didn’t like the wait times during the middle of peak, stormed out in the middle of me trying to help you, and then proceeded to call the store five times to yell and scream at us…

Get professional help you coward.

I feel you OP. Today ain’t it.
Puzzleheaded_Lie706 [OP] 71 points 8m ago
Another said they were going to “have” to go to another Starbucks. I’m like go ahead, we are all PARTNERS as in we work together. We all work so hard! Sending all the good vibes to my fellow partners!
mimidoesstuff 10 points 8m ago
For real! I know not all of us are lucky enough to work with a good, welcoming team, so I hope anyone who has to deal with that in top of bad customers has better days ahead of them.
H321652976 6 points 8m ago
I feel this. We had 5 partners call in sick Saturday
sublevel009 99 points 8m ago
My DM literally told us "customers can wait" instead of actually hiring more people. Fine, you wanna squeeze the life out of partners with skeleton crews? I direct every single customer to my DM's card on the condiment bar and tell them exactly what he said. You dont like waiting? Take it up with him
captainchainsaw32 32 points 8m ago
This is a great idea, thanks for the suggestion
northernelis 5 points 8m ago
Is it the DMs decision how many people can work at a store? Genuinely curious as to how that works and why they would/wouldn’t choose to hire more people.
sublevel009 20 points 8m ago
My guess is it's because our store is unionizing. We've pleaded with our SM and DM to hire more but it's been ignored. DM refuses to turn off mobiles or let us close the lobby when we're forced to run 2 person plays due to staffing or lunches. I'm not saying it's retaliation, but it *feels* like retaliation.
Enkeria92 -7 points 8m ago
I’m not for unionization, but yes that is retaliation. I’d reach out to another DM and get advice.
Pickle-Chunk 0 points 8m ago
And who mentioned unionization?

Also; you’re against fair working conditions, better pay?

Gotta love those customers who attempt to make their problems ours. They all seem to forget they chose to mobile order/come to starbucks on their *own free will* and can’t seem to understand the wild idea that there might be a wait. I really feel like mobile ordering set the precedent that orders will be ready immediately, and that’s just not the reality.

Any customer who decides to throw a tantrum while partners behind the counter are all running around wildly loses my respect immediately. Read the room, if you go to an establishment and there’s a long wait because it’s busy, throwing a fit over waiting does absolutely nothing productive for anyone. I finally got to the point where it’s like oh you’re gonna yell at me about waiting? I will now take my time to make your drink, because I can’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of this moment. It’s silly so I’ll just act silly too.

Also, those customers who mobile order and then immediately come through the drive thru….I beg y’all to please stop this. It just makes everything worse, and we’re not robots so no, your mobile order isn’t even near ready yet
Puzzleheaded_Lie706 [OP] 3 points 8m ago
Thisssss OMG. I swear they think there are Mobil drink baristas especially for them🤣
coffee-and-chillll 2 points 8m ago
Right!! And I swear every damn time they’re heavily modified drinks with vsccf, and they’re like “I *just* placed a mobile order” as the sticker rolls out…it’s like hot damn you weren’t exaggerating when you said “just placed it”.

I wish so badly we didn’t allow mobiles to be picked up in DT, it encourages this bs behavior
AlectoBlood43 3 points 8m ago
Felt like we had several of those mobile then DT today. It was beyond a hot mess. Think it was because of the full moon.
coffee-and-chillll 2 points 8m ago
One can only hope it’s because of the full moon…but sadly the amount of customers I experience that do this when it’s not a full moon tell me it’s a common behavior :/ I remember when I was new to a DT store and I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that someone rolled up to the speaker box moments after placing their mobile order….I truly just couldn’t believe it.

In my experience, they’re all heavily modified drinks with vsccf that are impossible to rush out the window. I’m getting irritated just thinking about it lol
AlectoBlood43 2 points 8m ago
Oh, I know. That darn cold foam drives me battier than usual, especially when they get it on every single one of their nine+ drinks.
reclusivegiraffe 38 points 8m ago
For my store — the number of staff we have hired isn’t the problem — it’s the amount of labor the company will give us. There are plenty of people at my store who would be ready and willing to work during certain times, and my manager would love to schedule them — but can’t, because of labor. and the floor suffers as a result
Downtown_Asparagus71 1 points 8m ago
I’m also told managers get bigger bonus for pushing profits over partners
reclusivegiraffe 1 points 8m ago
that may be true, but i know my manager well and i’m pretty sure that’s not something she’d do. pretty sure she like never gets bonuses
dayahorne 23 points 8m ago
To the customer who like to passive aggressively say "oh no its fine, im just going to be late for work" with a small giggle, but proceeded to stand in a long line and can see only two people working and then complain they're going to be late like its our fault.

Can you just please fuck off, lol 🥰🥰
coffee-and-chillll 13 points 8m ago
This type of behavior really makes me wonder if they’re adults or toddlers, I joke with coworkers and call customers adult toddlers lol. People that act this way really make me wonder how they’ve gotten through life, and when they mention being late for work I’m like good god I can’t imagine what kind of employee you are if you’re throwing a fit in a starbucks because you don’t know what time management is.

It’s like clearly your iced coffee was more important to ya than work since you stopped here, saw how busy it is, yet ordered and oddly thought there wouldn’t be a wait. The same kind of customer will be like “all I ordered was an iced coffee” and that’s fine and dandy, but someone in front of you ordered 3 hot drinks and 3 fraps and I’m doing hot and cold bar…so your simple lil order will take some time.

I once read someone’s comment on here saying something like “a customer’s poor time management will not be my problem” and I’ve fully embraced that
mariesnowelle 14 points 8m ago
Oh how badly I want to say "If you want your darn drink so bad, then come back here grab an apron and make it!"
Lavieestbelle31 10 points 8m ago
Right! Ugh
Some ppl lack common sense.
coffee-and-chillll 6 points 8m ago
Sometimes I wonder if there’s a mandatory lobotomy that customers must get before walking through the doors/getting in the DT line, because apparently any common sense and courtesy is lost for most customers
friendlySkeletor 7 points 8m ago
Honestly I've assumed all retail customers are illiterate for years
friendlySkeletor 9 points 8m ago
I mean the answer is managers get financial incentives for keeping labor costs as low as possible.
Hazel_is_Trans 6 points 8m ago
The 30 mins of set up during opening isn’t enough time
arokh123 1 points 8m ago
It depends on how your store is set up and how the closing team leaves the floor. I could almost finish coffee and tea prep in 30 minutes because the closing team left everything I needed (ingredients/ container wise) in and next to a container when I opened. I was very thankful for the night team as my opening shifts were so smooth and easy going into store open and peak
Hazel_is_Trans 1 points 8m ago
I used to leave everything out for the opener so it’s faster but I got written up for this so I can’t do it anymore
crowhusband 5 points 8m ago
any time i get a crustie saying "why dont you just hire more staff wah wah" i just hit them with the classic "it's hard to hire people if they aren't applying in the first place <3"

alternatively you can smack em with, "we're hiring if you're looking."
Puzzleheaded_Lie706 [OP] 5 points 8m ago
Yup, we had another lady who couldn’t understand why she had to “wait” so long for her drip coffee. She still didn’t get it, when I said “it’s because there were several people ahead of you” then she said “I wont be back” I said you’ll be sorely missed. Then proceeded to make an announcement to the many who were waiting
Telling them their patience will be very appreciated, and that we are working with limited staff. That I’d anyone is in a hurry to please come see me, and we can refund you, or see if we can quickly help you. As long as you are patient with us, as we are doing our best. I’m in my 40’s it’s a part time job for me. I’m a mom, I’m very fortunate, and enjoy this job most of the time. But when I see a customer berate any of my partners, mama bear comes out. Majority are quite young, and seeing grown ass people yell at 16 year olds really pisses me off. But really when they are rude to anyone.
We have a great management team, and they are doing everything to hire, our SM has had to come in and work on days off.
icelessTrash 4 points 8m ago
"no one lasts long because so many customers are impatient and awful to us"
floofxs2 3 points 8m ago
Why don’t the people without patience just make their drinks at home where there’s no line?
babybr3ad 3 points 8m ago
customers who complain and throw tantrums about waiting for their drink that they placed through the app during the peak are never gonna make it far in life if they expect everything to be ready at their own pace. my store is a SHIT SHOW every weekend because we will be 15-20 minutes backed up because there’s only one person doing mobile and cafe orders at the same time and sometimes doing cold bar and hot bar by themselves. how they have been this far in life is astounding
coffee-and-chillll 1 points 8m ago
I know that pain of being one person having to manage mobile and cafe orders and no cold bar help :/ It’s…hell. Straight up. One of the worst parts is the time it takes to move back and forth between cold and hot bar, it slows me down so much :(
charlenebean 2 points 8m ago
You should’ve handed her a job application
cecicoot 2 points 8m ago
I would’ve walked off the floor out to my car and walked back in with one of my extra aprons and handed it to them.
insanitychasesme 2 points 8m ago
"What a great idea! Here's an application and a pen. Go at it."
iStealSharpies 2 points 8m ago
Bruh idk if it’s the full moon coming or what but customers were EXTRA hostile today.
Bubblebutt217 1 points 8m ago
If Starbucks would allow people to work Saturday and Sunday only (I have a full time job M-F) then I’d be so happy but they only want people to work 4 days…only 20 hours…
itsnnotdamiann 1 points 8m ago
No because I had a customer come in for a mobile order 5 minutes after they placed it with 4 dark roast coffees right after open and the dark was still brewing so they stormed out saying they had to go and they were already late when they could've waited the two extra minutes for the dark roast to finish so that I could get the last 2 ventis out
