Every winter the sanitizer + cold kills my hands! 😭 (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sakuramads
Basically the title... this is literally my 6th holiday season with the bux and you would think i'd have an answer by now but the sanitizer mixed with the colder weather makes my hands super dry. Like you can physically see how dry and it's embarrassing plus it feels gross I hate it. Does anyone else have this problem and know a solution??

Regular lotion doesn't do anything, I used to keep a small one in my apron pocket lol.

Try cerave healing ointment. Its a lifesaver in the winter. A friend of mine swears by bag balm too

Double check the strength of the sanitizer with the strips. If it’s cracking your skin there is a high chance it needs adjusted.

This is over the course of 3 stores but it could certainly be that! I'll check!

I used to be in the "lotion doesn't work for me" camp, but our store actually keeps lotion by the hand washing sink and I put a little on after every time I wash my hands and then some (probably around 6-8 times in a 4 hour shift). I think doing it *during* the workday is more helpful rather than waiting for it to get bad. Also lotion works better when your skin is wet so using it right after washing your hands is more effective. You could maybe ask your SM to start stocking lotion or just keep a small bottle in your apron pocket

O'Keeffes working hands helps me, and this from someone who used to be a handcream snob. None of the expensive creams come close to helping like O'keeffes does.

sometimes the best solution is prevention. i wore fckn gloves whenever i had to touch the sanny 😂 took weeks to regrow my cuticles but it worked

I have hand psoriasis and work at Starbucks, I use Gold Bond healing hand cream with aloe! I’ve tried literally everything and this is my favorite

Aloe vera gel, or Weeleda Skin Food

Gold bond, or vaseline and put on gloves before you go to bed. Also just keeping a tube of lotion in ur apron helps, and applying lotion as soon as you’re done washing your hands. i got eczema and the sanitizer winter combo isn’t kind to me either ):

i use working hands in the little green tub :) i used to get ezcema on my hands from the sanitizer but this helped me a lot

also when using the sanitizer make sure it’s not hot. it should either be cold or lukewarm at most. had this problem last year when the hot sanitizer mixed with my dry hands caused chemical burns and gave me a gnarly rash on my hands

also just read that you’re a 6 year partner so u probs already knew that :/ but im gonna leave it here for the green beans in this thread :)

pure lanolin.

a very small amount on your hands, might seem greasy - but you wash your hands off after and they are baby soft and not dry at all.

they have it in baby sections at some stores as nipple cream, as well as just on amazon for much cheaper in larger amounts under pure lanolin.
