opening as an 18-year-old high school student? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Uhlaytheeuh
hey everyone! i offered to switch my 8 am shift for a 5:30 am opening this sunday. i recently turned 18 and was wondering if i am legally allowed to open on weekends. as stated in the title, i am still a high school student, so i’m wondering if there are restrictions that still apply. i’m in california if that helps.

i believe once u turn 18 and ur not a minor anymore, then none of the previous rules matter anymore

You're an adult. Being still in high school still makes no difference in the fact that you're an adult

I’m in Canada and here even tho you’re still in high school but of legal of age (18+) you can open/close. But double check with your SSVs!

That’s allowed. No minor labor laws apply to you anymore

Yep on weekends and during holiday breaks you can work as early or as much as you want. You no longer have an hour restriction on how many hours a week you can work, do keep in mind that now you only get a 30 if you’re working at least 6 hours that shift otherwise it’s only 10s.

Check with your SM. I was an ASM in California prior to moving, and I had an 18 year old in high school. California is strict, so because she was still in HS, I had to schedule her as a minor.
