I think I was almost scammed (self.starbucksbaristas)

Was working register when two women came in. One ordered an iced chai with almond milk and pumpkin cream foam and was VERY keen on it being an iced CHAI. The other drink was just a hot coco. I make the almond milk iced CHAI and the lady who ordered it laughed and went “I asked for a matcha, not a chai”. I hadn’t handed the drink to her yet or slid it on the counter (I’m slow and dumb sorry) and began to make her matcha. As I’m making the matcha, the girl asked if she could also have the “mess-up”. She said chai over and over during the order. I tell her sorry no I can’t hand it to her cus some health bs and give her the correct drink.
Told my shift lead and he thought I did great and avoided a scam. What do you guys think?

I thought we could start taking things back now that most of the COVID procedures were lifted? That’s what we’ve been doing at my store. Like no, I won’t throw your trash away for you so you have room in your car for your drink, but if they’re doing this kind of shit, I always take it back and dump it down the drain right in front of them 😂

Oh that’s fine. Just ask for it back before you start making the remake. I do that just to put them on the spot. And if they push back I say “oh, so you want to keep it? You don’t want me to remake it?”

There’s a tiktok hack about this where people are trying to get a free drink doing this. We were told not to give free drinks like that anymore & take it back

A lady this morning said "I think my drink is at the drive through counter" and said she ordered at the box but the line was too long. She gave it to her and she left quickly b4 we realized she wouldn't have been able to exit the drive thru lol, had to remake it

It was a mobile order. Honestly we were all super stressed out and just said "Iced coffee?" And gave it to her. Then we remade it when we realized the person got to the window

Yeah, a lot of us sometimes do give the extra drink because it often helps calm people down if we did mess up. Unfortunately people noticed, and TikTok means it spread widely as a scam.
Another exploit comes from the fact that by company standard we are actually supposed to start handing out items before taking payment, particularly when not all the items are ready yet. There's a scam where people in drive through get an item, then say "actually can you remove it, I don't want it/can't pay for it," knowing that we can't take it back. Usually they do this with food because you can't really lie about how you actually wanted an iced bacon gouda.

When someone tells me there drink is made wrong, I say, “Oh, sorry about that, let me see the drink again.” Then I take the drink back, look at the sticker and figure out what’s wrong and all that. When they tell me, then I dump it out and make the second drink. It makes me look concerned and genuine lmfao. Then I just give them the other drink. But gg to you!

I made a drink wrong, the customer had it in her hand, and I asked for sticker back so I could remake it because I knew it had some modifications. She instead handed me the entire drink. So I ripped off the sticker and threw the entire drink away. It was very satisfying. Her jaw literally dropped and was like “well I would of drank it” and I was like “oops sorry!”

My store is cracking down on this by having most remakes be approved by a shift and rung up as a recovery (exceptions in really obvious us mistakes that are a quick fix)
